A Nauru passport opens 84 of 227 destinations without a prior visa: 52 fully visa-free, 25 with a visa on arrival and 7 with an electronic travel authorisation. That is more than the passports of Sao Tome and Principe, Egypt and Jordan, but noticeably fewer than Caribbean investment passports.

The contribution-based citizenship programme has run since 2024, and the money also funds protecting the island from the effects of climate change. The passport works for travel to Asia, Oceania, the Middle East and the Caribbean, but Europe and North America are visa-only.

Where you can go visa-free with a Nauru passport

Entry regimes differ in how much preparation the trip needs. Visa-free means the passport is enough and the permitted stay is set at the border. A visa on arrival means a fee and a stamp at the airport or checkpoint. An electronic travel authorisation is a short online form and fee before departure. An e-visa is also online but involves a check and a consular decision. A regular visa means a form, documents, often a personal visit to the consulate and waiting for a decision.

Russia, South Korea, Israel, Sri Lanka and the Seychelles need an electronic travel authorisation, and Georgia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Colombia and the UK an e-visa. It is weak for Schengen, Ireland, the USA, Canada, China, Japan, Turkey, Serbia, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Brazil, Argentina and Mexico, which require a visa in advance.

The table shows the main destinations for travel, living and business, not all 227 countries and territories. An electronic travel authorisation is issued online within minutes or days; an e-visa is also applied for online, but it is a separate consular decision. Entry rules change several times a year: check with an expert for your trip.

Schengen, the UK, the USA and Canada

Schengen. A Schengen visa is required, issued by the consulate or visa centre of the country you travel to.

United Kingdom. A visa is required; you apply online and give biometrics at a visa centre.

USA. A visa is required after a consular interview. Nauru is not on the US entry restriction lists in force from 1 January 2026.

Canada. A visa is required, issued at a visa centre with biometrics.

Russia and Asia. Russia and South Korea need an electronic travel authorisation, China and Japan a visa; the UAE, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia are visa-free, and Thailand gives a visa on arrival.

What else a Nauru passport gives

English. Nauru is a Commonwealth member with Nauruan and English as official languages, so documents and dealings with the state are in English.

Dual citizenship. Nauru does not require you to give up your existing passport.

Family. The application can include a spouse, children and other dependants: each family member aged 16 and over pays $2,000 and is checked, while children under 16 pay no contribution.

Taxes. The passport does not make you a tax resident of Nauru: taxes depend on where you live, not on citizenship.

How to get a Nauru passport

A Nauru passport is granted for a non-refundable contribution to a state fund: $90,000 for applications filed by 31 December 2026 and $115,000 from 1 January 2027, plus a $5,000 application fee. It takes 3-4 months; you do not need to live on the island, but an interview is compulsory.

Citizens of Russia, Belarus, Afghanistan, Sudan and Yemen face restrictions: they can apply if they have lived outside these countries for at least 5 years or hold residence in the USA, the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland or an EU country. The family total is in our article on how much Nauru citizenship costs.

$90,000 only until the end of 2026, then $115,000

You cannot apply for Nauru citizenship on your own: the application is handled by an authorised programme agent. But even with an agent, mistakes cost more than the contribution: an application filed after 31 December 2026 at the new price, a source of funds without documents, citizenship restrictions discovered only after payment. We check whether you qualify under the programme rules, prepare the documents and the interview, and handle the application up to the passport.
