Investment property: Nauru

Nauru: we show what makes sense for you to buy, vet the seller and the property, and close the deal.

Nauru is one of the smallest countries in the world, and for foreigners there is essentially no investment property market: land on the island belongs to Nauruan families and communities, and foreigners cannot buy it outright. The country does have a passport programme - citizenship in exchange for a non-refundable contribution under the Economic and Climate Resilience Citizenship Program - but it is not connected to real estate in any way. The honest conclusion: if your goal is to invest in property, Nauru is not the place.

We say so plainly when a market does not solve your problem, and we do not offer property transactions in Nauru. Instead, we can help you assess whether Nauru citizenship by contribution fits your goals, compare it soberly with the alternatives, or find a jurisdiction where property is open to foreigners and, if needed, linked to residency or citizenship.

Can a foreigner buy property in Nauru

No: land in Nauru belongs to Nauruans, and a foreigner or foreign company cannot buy it outright. Only leasing is available, which requires the landowners' consent. The island's housing market is very small, and the citizenship program does not require buying property.

We will calculate online the full purchase cost for your budget: taxes, fees and transaction costs.

What we do

  • We explain what rights a lease gives and how to arrange it.
  • We help with the Nauru citizenship program if a passport is the goal.
  • We find property in other countries in the region.

The citizenship contribution: deadlines

The main applicant's contribution is $90,000 for applications filed by 31 December 2026, then $115,000. You do not need to live on or visit the island; a spouse, children, parents and siblings can be included for additional fees. For Australian dollar payments an Australian account is handy: more on our Australian personal account page.

Documents for a lease

  • Proof of address and source of income.
  • For a company, formation documents and owner details.
