What you can get in India

India at a glance

India is the world's most populous country, with more than 1.4 billion residents, and one of the fastest-growing large economies. The capital is New Delhi, and the business centres are Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune. The official languages are Hindi and English, and English is widely used in business and government. The currency is the rupee, about 96 rupees per dollar on 6 October 2026.

The economy rests on IT and outsourcing, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, finance and agriculture.

Who the move suits

  • professionals with a contract from an Indian or international company;
  • entrepreneurs in IT, pharmaceuticals, trade and manufacturing;
  • people of Indian origin and their spouses;
  • those seeking affordable living, a warm climate and resort Goa.

It is harder for those who struggle with heat, polluted air in big cities and bureaucracy.

Entry for Russian citizens

Russian citizens need a visa. For tourism and short business trips an e-visa is obtained online in advance. For long-term living you choose a purpose visa, and if you stay in India for more than 180 days on a long-term visa, you must register with the regional foreigners registration office within 14 days of arrival.

Residence options

  • Employment visa - through an Indian company, usually with a salary of at least $25,000 a year;
  • business visa - for negotiations, sourcing and starting a business;
  • study and family - separate visas;
  • Overseas Citizen of India card - for people of Indian origin and their spouses, giving the right to live and work without a visa.

India does not allow dual citizenship. We choose the visa and prepare the documents.

Taxes

Income tax runs from 0 to 30%, and a resident with income up to 1.2 million rupees a year, about $12,460, pays none. Since 22 September 2025 the main goods and services tax rate is 18% and the reduced rate 5%. Corporate tax under the concessional regime is 22%, effectively 25.17%, and crypto income is taxed at 30%. Under the treaty with Russia dividends are taxed at 10%. More in taxes in India.

The range is wide: foreigners usually choose gated complexes in good districts, where rent is several times the average, and international schools and private healthcare cost as much as in Europe.

Where to live

  • New Delhi - diplomatic Chanakyapuri, family-friendly Vasant Vihar, Greater Kailash and Defence Colony.
  • Gurgaon - Delhi's business satellite city with offices of international companies.
  • Bangalore - the IT capital with a mild climate.
  • Mumbai - the financial centre with the most expensive rent.
  • Goa - the seaside resort state.

Property for foreigners

Not every foreigner can buy property in India: under foreign exchange law, housing and commercial property can be bought by Indians living abroad, Overseas Citizen of India cardholders and foreigners living in the country for more than 182 days. Agricultural land, plantations and farmhouses are not sold to foreigners. We check whether a purchase is open to you and help with company registration and a business account.

Climate and daily life

Delhi has heat up to 45°C from April to June, monsoon rains from July to September and smog in winter. The south and Goa are milder. Big cities have metros and ride-hailing taxis, private clinics are good, and safety depends heavily on the district, so housing is chosen in gated complexes.

The rates did not change for 2026, but the new Income-tax Act, 2025 applies from 1 April 2026.
