What you can get in Grenada

Grenada in brief

Grenada is an independent island state in the southern Caribbean, north of Trinidad and Venezuela. The country consists of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique, with a population of about 125,000, and the capital is St. George's. Grenada became independent from the UK in 1974 and is a member of the Commonwealth, the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States and the Caribbean Community. It is called the Spice Isle: nutmeg, cocoa and cinnamon are grown here, and the main industries are tourism, a medical university and agriculture. The language is English, and the currency the East Caribbean dollar, firmly pegged at 2.70 to the US dollar.

Citizenship by investment

OptionAmountCondition
Contribution to the National Transformation Fundfrom $235,000non-refundable, covers a family of up to four
Real estatefrom $270,000 plus a $50,000 government contributiona share in an approved project, held for at least 5 years

On top come fees for filing, due diligence, interview, passport and oath, so a single applicant on the fund option pays about $245,000 in government payments. Applications are filed only through licensed agents, and it takes 8-12 months from the first conversation to the passport. The passport gives visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 147 countries, including the Schengen area, the UK and China. Dual citizenship is allowed. More on the page about Grenadian citizenship.

Rules for specific nationalities

Since 31 March 2023 Grenada has not accepted applications from citizens of Russia and Belarus, without exceptions, even if the applicant holds another country's passport. Citizens of North Korea are not accepted either, and citizens of Iran, Afghanistan, Sudan and Yemen face special conditions: having left the country before 18 or long residence elsewhere, and no economic ties with the home country. Russian citizens who need a second passport can use other countries' programmes, for example Paraguay or Argentina.

The US investor visa

Grenada is the only Caribbean country with a citizenship by investment programme that has a treaty with the US for the investor visa. But since 23 December 2022 anyone who obtained citizenship through investment must prove continuous residence in Grenada for at least three years before applying for this visa. The visa itself does not lead to a green card, requires a real business in the US, and children lose status at 21.

Taxes

Citizenship alone does not make you a tax resident: that requires spending more than 183 days a year in Grenada. The system is territorial: residents pay tax only on Grenadian-source income, and foreign income is not taxed. Income tax is 0% on the first 36,000 East Caribbean dollars, 10% on the next 24,000 and 28% above 60,000. Corporate tax is 28% and VAT 15%. There are no capital gains or inheritance taxes.

What is changing on presence

In 2026 there is no requirement to live in Grenada after receiving the passport. But the regional regulator of Eastern Caribbean citizenship programmes has announced a standard: at least 30 days on the island in the first 5 years after citizenship, including at least 5 days in the first 12 months. Grenada has prepared a law whose entry into force has been postponed until the regulator is launched, so plans should allow for this requirement.

Who Grenada suits

Grenada suits families who need a backup passport with visa-free access to Schengen, the UK and China, and entrepreneurs ready to live on the island for 3 years for the US investor visa. Write in the chat: we check whether the programme is open to your citizenship and calculate the full cost for your family.

Popular questions

FAQ about Grenada

Are there nationality restrictions for Grenada citizenship?
Yes: since 31 March 2023 Grenada has not accepted applications from citizens of Russia and Belarus, even if they hold another country's passport.
What currency is used in Grenada?
The East Caribbean dollar, firmly pegged at 2.70 to the US dollar. Citizenship programme prices are in US dollars.
Does Grenada tax foreign income?
The system is territorial: residents pay tax only on Grenadian-source income, and foreign income is not taxed.
How much does Grenada citizenship by investment cost in 2026?
The minimum is a non-refundable $235,000 contribution to the National Transformation Fund, covering the main applicant and a family of up to four. The alternative is a share in a government-approved real estate project from $270,000, plus a $50,000 government contribution and a five-year holding obligation. Government fees are added per person: application and processing $1,500 each for anyone aged 17 and over, due diligence from $5,000 per adult, an interview fee of about $1,000, passport issuance about $350 and the oath about $500. All in, a single applicant on the fund route pays from $243,000 in government payments; the cost of our support is on request from a manager.
How long does Grenada citizenship take in 2026?
8 to 12 months from first conversation to passport in hand. Review of files in the fourth quarter of 2025 took 7 months on average, ranging from 4 to 9; add 4 to 10 weeks of document collection before filing, 30 days to transfer the investment after approval in principle, and 4 to 6 weeks for passport issuance. Brochures say 3 to 6 months.
Does Grenada citizenship give you a US E-2 visa?
Yes, after at least three years of domicile in Grenada: Grenada holds a treaty with the United States that opens access to the non-immigrant E-2 investor visa, which is unique among Caribbean citizenship programmes, and where treaty nationality was acquired through financial investment, the applicant must evidence domicile in Grenada for a continuous period of at least three years at some point before applying. E-2 itself is not a green card and creates no path to one, it requires a real and operating American business rather than a passive investment, and children age out of status at 21.
Do you have to live in Grenada to keep citizenship?
In 2026 there is no residence or presence requirement: the whole process is remote and you need not visit before or after receiving the passport. However, the regional regulator ECCIRA has announced a standard of at least 30 days of physical presence across the first five years of citizenship, including a minimum of five days in the first twelve months. The requirement takes effect once the regulator starts work, so plan your visits with it in mind.
Is Grenada citizenship by investment worth it?
It is worth it for a specific profile: someone who needs visa-free access to China, wants a credible backup jurisdiction, plans an American E-2 business route in the coming years, and can afford $250,000 without expecting it back. It is not worth it if you are counting on European Union residence rights, on recovering the money through resort property, on tax invisibility, or on a fast American relocation. Note too that Grenadian nationals are in the American B-1/B-2 visa bond programme, with bonds of up to $20,000.
What taxes do you pay as a Grenada citizen?
Citizenship does not create tax residency, which starts at more than 183 days a year in the country. The system is territorial: residents pay on Grenada-source income while foreign income is exempt. Personal income tax is 0 per cent on the first 36,000 Eastern Caribbean dollars (about $14,000), 10 per cent on the next 24,000 Eastern Caribbean dollars (about $8,900) and 28 per cent above 60,000 Eastern Caribbean dollars (about $23,000). Corporate tax is 28 per cent, VAT 15 per cent and withholding tax on payments to non-residents 15 per cent. There is no capital gains, inheritance or wealth tax. Banks report under the CRS by tax residency rather than citizenship, so a second passport does not remove accounts from automatic exchange.
