How to send money to Grenada in 2026: a fund contribution, a resort share and the next step to the US

9 min read ·

In 2026 money is sent to Grenada in US dollars, and the local currency is pegged to the dollar at 2.70. The main amounts are a $235,000 fund contribution or a resort share from $270,000 with a $50,000 government fee, with about 30 days to pay after approval. The first 36,000 Eastern Caribbean dollars of yearly income are tax-free.

The most convenient way to send money to Grenada in 2026 is a bank transfer in US dollars: it reaches a bank in St. George's in 1-3 business days, and the Eastern Caribbean dollar is exchanged at the fixed rate of 2.70. The largest transfers to the island are linked to the citizenship programme: a fund contribution of $235,000, or a share in a resort project from $270,000 plus a $50,000 government fee, and there are about 30 days to pay after approval in principle. Grenada is the only programme in the region after which you can apply for a US investor visa, so for many the next transfer goes to America.

Transfer methods were checked on 8 October 2026. Amounts in local currency are converted into US dollars at 2.70, rounded up.

A $235,000 contribution or a resort share: two payments and 30 days

Grenada's citizenship programme has run since 2013, and since 1 July 2024 the minimum contribution to the National Transformation Fund is $235,000. The application is filed only through an authorised agent, and processing takes about 7 months. Due diligence fees are sent first, and the main amount after the letter of approval in principle. About 30 days are given to transfer the investment after the letter, and this is exactly the month when banks most often hold up large payments. The seven months of processing are a good time to gather the money in one account, get statements and agree with the sending bank, rather than look for a route in the last days.

  • fund contribution - $235,000, non-refundable;
  • a share in an approved property project - from $270,000, held for 5 years;
  • the property option adds a $50,000 government fee - a separate payment to the state, not to the developer;
  • a separate unit in an approved project costs more than a share and suits those who want to live in their own home.

The property option means two transfers to different recipients: the share price goes to the developer's account named in the contract, and the government fee to the government's account. Mixing up the details or sending one combined amount costs a week on a refund. All amounts and timelines are on the page Grenada citizenship and in the article how much Grenada citizenship costs. Not sure your sending bank will let the payment through within 30 days? Find out the transfer terms - there are options from almost any country.

St. George's: banks, the 2.70 rate and payment details

The State of Grenada is three islands: Grenada itself, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. Banks are concentrated in the capital St. George's, by the horseshoe-shaped Carenage harbour, and in the larger towns of the main island. Grenada is part of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union, so its currency is 2.70 to the US dollar, as in St. Lucia or Antigua.

For a payment from abroad the sending bank needs the international code of the bank in Grenada, the account number, the recipient's full name and a correspondent bank in the US for dollars. Local account numbers are short and have no letters; there is no international number format here. An amount sent in dollars to an Eastern Caribbean dollar account is exchanged at the recipient bank's rate - close to 2.70 but with a small margin, so a large amount is more conveniently kept in a dollar account.

Tax in Grenada: the first 36,000 Eastern Caribbean dollars tax-free

A transfer to Grenada is not taxed; a resident pays tax on income. The first 36,000 Eastern Caribbean dollars a year - about $14,000 - are not taxed, and the next 24,000 (about $8,900) are taxed at 10%. Companies pay 28% corporate income tax, and value added tax is 15%. A Grenadian passport does not by itself make you a tax resident: taxes are paid in the country where you live most of the year.

For a home buyer the tax on sale matters more. The property transfer tax is 5% for a Grenadian citizen and 15% for a foreigner. So a programme participant who already holds the passport sells a house with lower taxes than a foreigner without citizenship.

If the house is let through a Grenadian company, the rent arrives in its account and is taxed at the 28% corporate rate, and the owner withdraws the net income. The bank checks a transfer to such a company's account against its articles and list of owners, so these papers are attached to the first payment.

A house by Grand Anse beach: a 10% licence and payment to the seller

Grand Anse beach, about 3 kilometres long, is the island's main resort area, with several resorts whose shares are sold under the citizenship programme. A foreigner who buys a house outside the programme obtains an alien landholding licence, which costs 10% of the price. A programme participant is exempt from this fee. Houses on Carriacou and Petite Martinique are bought under the same rules: the same licence, the same lawyer and a transfer to a bank in the state - there are bank branches in Hillsborough, the main town of Carriacou.

The money for a house goes to the account of the lawyer handling the deal, and the payment purpose repeats the contract number and the plot description. Property selection is on the page property in Grenada. If the purchase coincides with the programme payment, we will suggest the best way to send both amounts so that the bank does not hold up the second.

The amount of a transfer to Grenada and the papers for it

Papers for a transfer to Grenada by amount level, in 2026:

Transfer sizeWhat the bank is interested inWhat to show
up to $10,000the recipient and the purposea payment purpose is enough
$10,000-100,000source of the money, who the recipient issix months of statements, a contract, an income certificate
from $100,000the whole history of the moneya sale agreement for a business or flat, inheritance, dividends, statements for 1-2 years

A fund contribution and a resort share are always the top level, which means the bank and the citizenship unit check the same papers. It is easier to collect them once, before applying. How to move a large amount step by step is on the capital relocation page, and the list of documents is in the article proof of source of funds.

We will help you send money to Grenada

The most expensive mistakes here are not fees: a resort share and the $50,000 government fee sent as one payment, the 30 days after approval spent on a check at the sending bank, and money for a US business without a chain from the original source. We will help you avoid them: we will choose a route for the amount and the sending country, prepare source of funds documents, take the transfer through licensed partners and follow it until it is credited.

Details and cost are with our manager in the chat: they depend on the amount, the sending country and the purpose - a contribution, a resort share or a house.

From Grenada to the US: money for a business under the investor visa

Grenada's treaty with the US on trade and investment gives Grenadian citizens access to the investor visa: with it you come to run your own business in America. You can apply after 3 years of living in Grenada, and the visa itself requires a real investment in a US business. So the money takes a double route here: first to Grenada, then to the US to the company's account. The earlier you show the bank the chain of money from the original source to Grenada, the easier the second transfer goes. The US bank will ask how the money reached Grenada, and statements from your island account for all the years you lived there become part of the answer. The visa is covered in detail in the article Grenada citizenship and the path to the US investor visa. If money needs to go to Canada, a dollar account on the island makes this step easier too.
