Grenada is the only Caribbean citizenship by investment programme whose passport opens access to an American investor visa under a treaty with the US. It does not accept applications from Russian and Belarusian citizens. Their open options are Vanuatu citizenship and Turkish citizenship.

For everyone else the $235,000 contribution is only the start. On top come fees and due diligence for each adult, documents and surcharges for relatives outside the core family. Below are all the cost items, family amounts, timelines and what happens on refusal.

What the cost is made of

Cost itemAmountWho pays
Government fund contributionfrom $235,000main applicant
Application, processing and interview$4,000once per application
Main applicant due diligence$5,000once per application
Share in an approved real estate project instead of the contributionfrom $270,000 plus a $50,000 government fee, held 5 yearsmain applicant
A standalone unit in an approved projectfrom $350,000 plus the government feemain applicant
Fifth and further family members$25,000 added to the contributioneach beyond four
Medical certificates, apostilles and translationsfrom $300each family member

Fees and due diligence are paid on filing, and the fund contribution after approval. Buying property adds transaction taxes and charges.

Applications go only through a licensed agent: the investment migration unit does not accept them directly.

The contribution is $235,000, but you pay it only after approval

The biggest losses in Grenada's programme come not from the contribution but from fees and due diligence on refusal: $9,000 per adult is not refunded. Refusals come from unproven source of funds, a concealed visa refusal or citizenship of a restricted country. Murblz checks eligibility before filing, prepares source-of-funds documents and prepares you for the interview.

Two adults and a childfrom $244,000
Two adults and two childrenfrom $244,000

The $235,000 contribution covers the applicant, spouse, children and parents over 55, up to four people. Parents aged 55 or under add $50,000, and a brother or sister $75,000. Fees and due diligence are paid per person: from age 17 they are double a younger child's.

What the cost does not include

  • medical certificates and tests;
  • apostilles, translations and police certificates;
  • taxes and charges on a property purchase, if you take that route;
  • surcharges for relatives outside the core family;
  • the passport and oath after approval;
  • flights, if you choose to attend the interview in person.

Timeline by step

StepTime
Pre-check: eligibility and source of funds1-2 weeks
Filing through a licensed agent and paying fees2-4 weeks
Due diligence and interview3-6 months
Approval and payment of the contributionafter the checks
Oath, citizenship certificate and passport2-4 weeks

The whole path usually takes 4-9 months, about seven on average. After citizenship you will have to visit: the Caribbean states agreed a common standard of at least 30 days on the island in the first 5 years, including 5 days in the first year.

Is money refunded if you are refused

The fund contribution is paid only after approval, so it is not lost if due diligence fails. Filing and due diligence fees are not refunded.

On refusal the property stays yours, but for the programme it must be held 5 years. Selling earlier forfeits eligibility, and a new filing means paying due diligence again.

Saint Kitts and NevisGovernment fund contributionfrom $260,0003-6 monthsallowed
VanuatuGovernment fund contribution under the DSPfrom $135,000Usually 1-3 monthsallowed

Dominica is cheaper, St Kitts dearer, and Caribbean timelines are similar. Grenada's edge is the US investor visa treaty. Caribbean programmes are closed to Russian and Belarusian citizens; the open alternative with a similar timeline is Vanuatu.

The US investor visa: what Grenada's trump card really costs

The trade and investment treaty between Grenada and the US gives Grenadian citizens access to the American investor visa. It is not a green card: the visa lets you come to the US and run your own operating business there, your spouse may work and your children may study.

There is a condition the glossy brochures skip: before applying for this visa you must show that you lived in Grenada continuously for at least three years. Add a real investment in a US business. So the price of the passport should include the price of moving to the island.

What Russian and Belarusian citizens can do

Grenada accepts no applications from Russian and Belarusian citizens, without exception. A second passport for investment is open to them in Vanuatu, with no trip and in a few months, and in Turkey through a property purchase.

If you already hold a second citizenship and live outside Russia, eligibility is checked against all your passports and your country of residence before filing.

Documents and where to get them

  • passports, birth and marriage certificates with apostilles;
  • police certificates from your country of citizenship and every country where you lived more than 6 months;
  • a medical certificate and tests;
  • proof of source of funds: statements, asset sale contracts, tax returns;
  • a bank reference;
  • photos and forms for each family member.

Documents in other languages are translated into English. Certificates older than three to six months are usually asked to be replaced.
