6 min read ·

Dual citizenshipallowed since 2006

Amounts checked: 2026-10-06

Sierra Leone has one of the newest and cheapest citizenship programmes: no visit to the country, a broad family package and a stated timeline of 60-90 days. Since 1 October 2026 a single applicant is better off on the separate $100,000 route, while families take the $140,000 fast track with add-ons for relatives.

The price is honest only together with the limits: entry to the US on this passport is suspended, and Schengen and the UK require a visa. Below are all routes, cost items, family amounts, timelines and refund terms.

What the cost is made of

Cost itemAmountWho pays
Solo contribution incl. due diligencefrom $100,000main applicant
Fast track with family$140,000 for the main applicantmain applicant
Due diligencefrom $5,000 per application of up to 5 peopleonce per application
Spouse, children under 18, parents and grandparents$10,000each family member
Adult children, siblings under 30 and their spouses$20,000each family member
Heritage route for descendants$120,000main applicant

Since 1 October 2026 a single applicant is better off on the separate route: $100,000 versus $145,000 on the fast track including due diligence. The heritage route, by contrast, rose to $120,000.

For the African diaspora there is a route without an investment contribution: instead of money it requires a DNA test, a trip and a ceremony.

Prices changed on 1 October 2026, and the refund deduction is not set in figures

The main risk of the Sierra Leone programme is not the contribution but the refund terms: on refusal the money is returned from escrow minus administrative costs and the check, and the general wording does not name the deduction. Murblz chooses the best route for your family composition, gets the deduction and refund deadline written into the contract in figures and handles the application up to the naturalisation certificate.

How much it costs for a family of 2, 3 and 4

FamilyMinimum
Two adultsfrom $155,000
Two adults and a childfrom $165,000
Two adults and two childrenfrom $175,000

The family package is one of the broadest: an application can include not only the spouse and children but also parents, grandparents, adult children and siblings under 30. The family total depends on who is included, and we calculate the full amount with due diligence and documents in the chat.

What the cost does not include

  • translations, notarisation and passport delivery;
  • visas for the US, Schengen and the UK when travelling on the new passport;
  • flights if you choose the diaspora route with a trip and ceremony;
  • support: we quote it after reviewing the documents.

Timeline by step

StepTime
Choosing the route and family composition1-2 weeks
Documents and due diligence3-6 weeks
Contribution to the escrow accountafter due diligence approval
Decision and naturalisation certificate60-90 days stated, 3-6 months in practice
Passportsafter the certificate

Naturalisation certificates are signed by the president, usually in batches, so the stated 60-90 days stretches to 3-6 months in practice.

Is money refunded if you are refused

On refusal the money is returned from escrow minus administrative costs and the cost of due diligence, as the programme policy states. The exact deduction and refund deadline should be written into the contract in figures, not a general phrase.

Due diligence is not refunded on refusal.

Comparison with neighbouring programmes

CountryRouteMinimum for oneTimeDual citizenship
VanuatuGovernment fund contribution under the DSPfrom $135,000Usually 1-3 monthsallowed
DominicaFund contribution or real estatefrom $210,0003-6 monthsallowed
EgyptContribution from $250,000from $260,0006-12 months, often longerallowed

Vanuatu and Dominica cost more, but their passports open Schengen visa-free. Egypt costs more and also lacks visa-free Europe. Sierra Leone is the cheapest entry, but with the most limited passport.

Who the Sierra Leone passport suits

The passport opens 63 visa-free destinations, fewer than the Russian one with 114. It suits those who need a second citizenship as a backup document, for business in West Africa or for a whole large family in one application. It will not help with travel to the US, Europe or the UK.
