Nauru grants citizenship for a contribution to its economic and climate resilience fund. Until 31 December 2026 a reduced contribution of $90,000 applies; from 1 January 2027 it rises to $115,000. The price depends on the filing date: an application filed in December keeps the discount even if the decision comes in 2027.

On top of the contribution the government charges application, due diligence, bank due diligence and passport fees, and each family member has their own. Below are all cost items at the official rates, the family calculation, the timeline and what happens if you are refused.

Government charges for one applicant come to about $102,700: the $90,000 contribution, $5,000 application fee, $6,000 due diligence, $1,200 bank charge and $500 passport. All amounts are set in US dollars, so no conversion is needed.

The contribution is paid after approval in principle. Application and due diligence fees are paid on filing.

The reduced contribution applies until 31 December 2026

From 1 January 2027 Nauru's contribution rises from $90,000 to $115,000, and the reduced price depends on the filing date, not the decision date. Preparing documents takes 2-4 weeks, and Russian citizens must also prove life outside Russia or residence in an approved country. Murblz checks whether the family passes the restrictions, builds the file, prepares for the interview and files before the year ends.

From filing to approval usually takes 3-4 months. To keep the reduced contribution, start collecting documents no later than November 2026.

Is money refunded if you are refused

Application, due diligence and bank due diligence fees are paid on filing and are not refunded on refusal. The contribution is paid only after approval in principle, so a refusal at the due diligence stage does not cost it.

Once paid, the contribution is not refunded. Refusals follow convictions, sanctions, an unproven source of funds, discrepancies between the forms and the interview, and failure of a restricted country's citizen to meet the conditions.

Sao Tome and PrincipeGovernment fund contributionfrom $95,000About 6 months: decision in 1.5-2 months, then the passport is issuednot set by law
VanuatuGovernment fund contribution under the DSPfrom $135,000Usually 1-3 monthsallowed

Sao Tome and Principe costs the same for one person, is cheaper for a family of up to 4 and has no restrictions for Russian citizens. Vanuatu and Dominica cost more but have longer-running programmes and stronger passports.

For Russian citizens

Restrictions apply to citizens of Russia, Belarus, Afghanistan, Sudan and Yemen. They can apply if they have not lived in their country for at least 5 years or hold residence in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland or an EU country, and have no economic ties to their country of citizenship. Applications from citizens of North Korea, Iran and Myanmar are not accepted.

If the restrictions cannot be met, for Russian citizens living in Russia the Sao Tome and Principe programme is more accessible.

What a Nauru passport gives

Visa-free entry or visa on arrival in more than 85 countries, including Singapore, Hong Kong and the UAE, and a second citizenship for the whole family without moving. Citizenship by itself does not make you a tax resident of Nauru: taxes are paid where you actually live.

Nauru is one of the smallest countries in the world, with about 12,000 people; its official languages are Nauruan and English, its currency the Australian dollar. Full programme conditions on the Nauru citizenship by investment page.
