Who can apply

  • the applicant is at least 18;
  • no criminal record, confirmed by official certificates;
  • a lawful source of funds for the contribution;
  • the applicant passes checks and the interview.

Applications from citizens of 3 countries are not accepted, and citizens of 5 more apply under extra conditions: the lists are under rules for specific nationalities.

Rules for specific nationalities

Nauru does not accept 3 nationalities and accepts 5 more only under extra conditions.

  • Not accepted: citizens of North Korea, Iran and Myanmar.
  • Restricted: citizens of Russia, Belarus, Afghanistan, Sudan and Yemen are accepted only if they have not lived in those countries for at least 5 years or hold residence in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland or a European Union country, and have no economic ties with those countries.

Apply now or wait

The reduced $90,000 contribution depends on the filing date: applications filed by 31 December 2026 get the reduced price even if the decision comes in 2027. From 1 January 2027 the contribution rises to $115,000, that is by $25,000. Preparing documents takes 2-4 weeks, so start no later than November 2026.

Documents

  • valid passports of all applicants;
  • police certificates from the country of citizenship and countries of residence;
  • birth and marriage certificates;
  • proof of residential address;
  • proof of income and lawful source of funds for the contribution: statements, contracts, tax returns, sale documents;
  • for citizens of restricted countries, residence elsewhere and proof of living outside the country of citizenship for at least 5 years;
  • photos and medical certificates in the programme's form.

Documents in other languages are translated into English and certified.

Family

The application can include a spouse, children and other dependent relatives. Each family member aged 16 or over pays $2,000 and is vetted; children under 16 pay no contribution. Every family member gets their own passport.

What to check before applying

  • citizens of North Korea, Iran and Myanmar;
  • citizens of restricted countries who live there or keep economic ties with them;
  • a criminal record or sanctions;
  • an unproven source of funds;
  • application details that conflict with the checks or the interview.

How checks and the interview work

Due diligence uses international databases: criminal records, sanctions lists, court cases, publications about the applicant and their business. The source of the contribution is checked separately: a business or property sale, salary, dividends or inheritance must be documented. At the interview, by video or in person, you are asked about your background, work, family and reasons for citizenship. Answers must match the application, so we prepare the applicant and cross-check documents in advance.

What a Nauru passport gives

  • visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to more than 85 destinations, including Singapore, Hong Kong and the UAE;
  • a second citizenship for the family without relocating;
  • a Pacific passport as a backup document for travel and banking.

Visa-free lists change by other states' decisions, so we check entry rules before each trip.

Taxes

Nauru citizenship does not by itself make you a Nauru tax resident: tax is paid where you actually live. Banks and tax authorities determine tax residence by where you live, not by passport, so a second passport does not exempt you from tax in your country of residence.

Nauru in brief

Nauru is one of the world's smallest countries, with about 12,000 people, and a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. Official languages are Nauruan and English, and the currency is the Australian dollar. Most new citizens under the programme do not live on the island, so for travel and banking a Nauru passport serves as an additional document to your main citizenship.

Risks and what may change

  • A young programme. It has run since 2024, and terms and prices have already changed.
  • The price will rise: the reduced contribution applies to applications filed by 31 December 2026.
  • Other countries' stance. The European Union and others are reviewing visa-free access for passports obtained by investment.
  • Banks closely check holders of investment passports, so your main passport and residence still matter.
