The Sierra Leonean passport opens 63 of 227 destinations without a prior visa: 40 fully visa-free, 19 with a visa on arrival and 4 with an electronic travel authorisation. By number of countries it is one of the weakest passports sold by investment.
Its main value is West Africa: Sierra Leonean citizens travel and live freely in the countries of the Economic Community of West African States. The passport does not suit travel to Europe, the UK and North America, and entry to the USA is closed to its holders.

Where you can go visa-free with a Sierra Leonean passport
Entry regimes differ in how much preparation the trip needs. Visa-free means the passport is enough and the permitted stay is set at the border. A visa on arrival means a fee and a stamp at the airport or checkpoint. An electronic travel authorisation is a short online form and fee before departure. An e-visa is also online but involves a check and a consular decision. A regular visa means a form, documents, often a personal visit to the consulate and waiting for a decision.
| Region | Visa-free or with an electronic authorisation | Visa on arrival or e-visa | Visa needed in advance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Europe | - | United Kingdom, Moldova, Albania | Schengen area, Ireland, Cyprus, Russia, Belarus, Turkey, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia |

| Asia | Singapore, Malaysia | Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Maldives | China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Philippines |
| Middle East and Africa | Kenya | Oman, Tanzania | UAE, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, South Africa |
| Americas | - | Colombia | USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Panama, Dominican Republic, Paraguay, Uruguay |
| Oceania | - | - | Australia, New Zealand |
The Sierra Leonean passport is strongest in West Africa and the Caribbean: Nigeria, Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Guinea, Liberia, The Gambia, Benin, Togo, Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Botswana, the Bahamas, Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Singapore, Malaysia, Fiji and Vanuatu are visa-free. The Maldives give a visa on arrival, and the UK, Georgia, Thailand, Vietnam, India and Colombia an e-visa. Its weak spots are Schengen, Ireland, the USA, Canada, Russia, China, Japan, the UAE, Turkey and all of Latin America except Colombia, which require a visa in advance.
The table shows the main destinations for travel, living and business, not all 227 countries and territories. An electronic travel authorisation is issued online within minutes or days; an e-visa is also applied for online, but it is a separate consular decision. Entry rules change several times a year: check with an expert for your trip.
Schengen, the UK, the USA and Canada
Schengen. A Schengen visa is required, issued by the consulate or visa centre of the country of travel.
United Kingdom. A visa is required; the application is made online and biometrics are given at a visa centre.
USA. Since 1 January 2026, under a US presidential proclamation, Sierra Leone is on the list of countries with a full suspension of entry, so a US visa cannot be obtained on this passport.
Canada. A visa is required, applied for at a visa centre with biometrics.
Russia and Asia. Russia and China require a visa; Singapore and Malaysia do not.
What else a Sierra Leonean passport gives
West Africa. A Sierra Leonean citizen travels visa-free in the countries of the Economic Community of West African States and can live there under the community's simplified rules.
Dual citizenship. Sierra Leone has allowed dual citizenship since 2006, so the previous passport is kept.
Family. A citizenship by investment application can include the spouse and children and, on some routes, parents.
Taxes. The passport does not make you a Sierra Leonean tax resident: taxes depend on where you live, not on citizenship.
How to get a Sierra Leonean passport
A Sierra Leonean passport is obtained through the citizenship by investment programme: from $100,000 including due diligence for a single applicant, at the rates in force from 1 October 2026, with processing taking about 3 months. No residence or exams are required.
Before choosing this passport, compare it honestly with your goal: it adds West Africa but does not open Schengen, the UK or the USA. Other passports suit travel to Europe and North America; see the comparison in the 2026 passport overview. Programme conditions are on the page Sierra Leone citizenship by investment.

A passport for $100,000 in 3 months, but the USA is closed to it
You cannot apply for Sierra Leonean citizenship on your own: applications are accepted only through an authorised agent. But even with an agent, mistakes cost more than the contribution: a passport that does not solve your travel needs, a source of funds without documents and a family member who cannot be included on the chosen route. We compare the Sierra Leonean passport with other programmes for your goal, check your family against the rules and handle the application up to the passport.
The cost of support depends on your family and the route; a manager will calculate it in the chat.
