The Kyrgyz passport opens 59 of 227 destinations without a prior visa: 26 fully visa-free, 29 with a visa on arrival and 4 with an electronic travel authorisation. By number of countries it is a modest passport, but its strength lies elsewhere.
Kyrgyzstan is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union, and its citizens work in Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Armenia without a work permit and enter Russia without a visa. For people who live and earn in these countries this matters more than visa-free Schengen.

Where you can go visa-free with a Kyrgyz passport
Entry regimes differ in how much preparation the trip needs. Visa-free means the passport is enough and the permitted stay is set at the border. A visa on arrival means a fee and a stamp at the airport or checkpoint. An electronic travel authorisation is a short online form and fee before departure. An e-visa is also online but involves a check and a consular decision. A regular visa means a form, documents, often a personal visit to the consulate and waiting for a decision.
| Region | Visa-free or with an electronic authorisation | Visa on arrival or e-visa | Visa needed in advance |

| Europe | Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Turkey, Serbia | Albania | Schengen area, United Kingdom, Ireland, Cyprus, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia |
| Caucasus and Central Asia | Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan | - | - |
| Asia | Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines, Maldives | Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, India | China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea |
| Middle East and Africa | Kenya (online authorisation) | UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Jordan, Tanzania | Israel, Egypt, Morocco, South Africa |

The Kyrgyz passport is strongest in the former USSR and parts of Asia: Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Turkey, Serbia, Mongolia, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines and the Maldives are visa-free. Thailand, Saudi Arabia and Jordan give a visa on arrival, and the UAE, India, Indonesia, Singapore, Oman and Colombia an e-visa. Its weak spots are Schengen, the UK, Ireland, the USA, Canada, China, Japan, South Korea and almost all of Latin America, which require a visa in advance.
The table shows the main destinations for travel, living and business, not all 227 countries and territories. An electronic travel authorisation is issued online within minutes or days; an e-visa is also applied for online, but it is a separate consular decision. Entry rules change several times a year: check with an expert for your trip.
Schengen, the UK, the USA and Canada
Schengen. A Schengen visa is required, issued by the consulate or visa centre of the country of travel, usually with proof of income and bookings.
United Kingdom. A visa is required; the application is made online and biometrics are given at a visa centre.
USA and Canada. Both require a visa in advance, and the US one is issued after a consular interview.
Russia and the Eurasian union. Kyrgyz citizens enter Russia without a visa and work there without a patent or work permit, as they do in Kazakhstan, Belarus and Armenia.
Turkey and Asia. Turkey, Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines are visa-free, Thailand gives a visa on arrival.
What else a Kyrgyz passport gives
Work in the Eurasian union. A Kyrgyz citizen works in Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Armenia on the same terms as local residents, without a work permit, and their work record and education are recognised.
Dual citizenship. Kyrgyzstan grants citizenship without requiring you to give up certain other citizenships, including Russian; check what your home country requires.
Low living costs. Bishkek and Osh are among the most affordable cities in the region; costs are in the article cost of living in Kyrgyzstan.
Taxes. The passport does not make you a Kyrgyz tax resident: taxes depend on where you live. Rates are on the page taxes in Kyrgyzstan.
How to get a Kyrgyz passport
The Kyrgyz passport is not for sale. The general route is 5 years in the country on a residence permit, knowledge of the state language and a lawful income. Former USSR citizens and people born in the Kirghiz SSR need only one year in the country under Article 14 of the citizenship law, and citizens of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus have a simplified route under a 1999 agreement. The spouse of a Kyrgyz citizen needs 3 years of marriage and residence in the country.
No language exam is required in the route for former USSR citizens. Details are on the page Kyrgyz citizenship.
Requirements, timelines and documents are on the page Kyrgyz citizenship.
One year instead of five, if your Soviet-era documents are in order
The law does not stop you applying for Kyrgyz citizenship on your own. But mistakes cost more than the fees: a Soviet citizenship certificate that cannot be found in the archive, a residence permit that does not count towards the period, absences longer than allowed and a missed notice of the second passport to your home country. We check which period applies to you, search the archives, arrange the residence permit and handle the application up to the passport.
The cost of support depends on the ground and your family; a manager will calculate it in the chat.
