Where you can travel visa-free with an Armenian passport in 2026
64 destinations without a prior visa, China and the former Soviet countries visa-free, but Schengen, the UK and the USA only with a visa. In return the passport gives the right to live and work across the Eurasian Union.
In short
An Armenian passport gives entry without a prior visa to 64 of 227 countries and territories: Russia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, China, the UAE, Brazil and Argentina. Schengen, the UK, the USA, Canada and Japan require a visa.
| Without a prior visa | 64 of 227: 32 visa-free, 28 on arrival, 4 with an electronic travel authorisation |
|---|---|
| Visa needed in advance | 162, of which 39 by e-visa |
| Schengen and the UK | Schengen area - visa required, United Kingdom - visa required |
| USA and Canada | USA - visa required, Canada - visa required |
| How to get it | naturalisation after 3 years of living in Armenia or by Armenian descent |
| Checked | October 2026 |
An Armenian passport opens 64 of 227 destinations without a prior visa: 32 fully visa-free, 28 with a visa on arrival and 4 with an electronic travel authorisation. That is 50 fewer than the Russian passport, so as a travel document it will not replace a Russian one.
People take it for other reasons. Armenia is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union, and its citizens live and work in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan without work permits. Armenia allows dual citizenship, does not tax non-residents' foreign income, and in 2024 the EU opened a visa liberalisation dialogue with it.
We will work out online when you can apply and what fees and documents will cost for your family.
Where you can go visa-free with a Armenian passport
Entry regimes differ in how much preparation the trip needs. Visa-free means the passport is enough and the permitted stay is set at the border. A visa on arrival means a fee and a stamp at the airport or checkpoint. An electronic travel authorisation is a short online form and fee before departure. An e-visa is also online but involves a check and a consular decision. A regular visa means a form, documents, often a personal visit to the consulate and waiting for a decision.
| Region | Visa-free or with an electronic authorisation | Visa on arrival or e-visa | Visa needed in advance |

| Europe | Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Serbia, Albania | Turkey | Schengen area, United Kingdom, Ireland, Cyprus, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia |
| Caucasus and Central Asia | Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan | - | Azerbaijan |
| Asia | China, Hong Kong, Malaysia | Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Maldives | Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Philippines |
| Middle East and Africa | UAE, Oman, Kenya (online authorisation) | Jordan, Egypt, Tanzania | Israel, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, South Africa |
| Americas | Brazil, Argentina, Panama, Uruguay | Colombia | USA, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Peru, Dominican Republic, Paraguay |
| Oceania | - | - | Australia, New Zealand |
The Armenian passport is visa-free for the former Soviet countries except Azerbaijan, plus Serbia, Albania, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the UAE, Oman, Brazil, Argentina, Panama and Uruguay. A visa on arrival is issued in Thailand, Indonesia, the Maldives, Jordan and Tanzania, and an e-visa is needed for Turkey, Vietnam, India, Egypt and Colombia. A visa in advance is required for Schengen, the UK, the USA, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Israel, Australia and Mexico.
The table shows the main destinations for travel, living and business, not all 227 countries and territories. An electronic travel authorisation is issued online within minutes or days; an e-visa is also applied for online, but it is a separate consular decision. Entry rules change several times a year: check with an expert for your trip.
Schengen, the UK, the USA and Canada
Schengen. Armenian citizens need a Schengen visa from the consulate of the main destination. In September 2024 the EU and Armenia opened a visa liberalisation dialogue, but no decision on visa-free travel has been made.
United Kingdom. A visitor visa is required; the electronic travel authorisation is not available to Armenian citizens.
USA. A tourist or business visa with a consular interview; the Visa Waiver Program does not cover Armenia.
Canada. Visa only: the electronic travel authorisation instead of a visa does not apply to Armenian citizens.
Asia. Since 2020 Armenia and China have had mutual visa-free travel, and Hong Kong and Malaysia are visa-free too. Japan, South Korea and Singapore require a visa, while Thailand and Indonesia issue a visa on arrival.
What else a Armenian passport gives
Work in the Eurasian Union. An Armenian citizen works in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan without a work permit or quotas, and their diplomas and work record are recognised across the union.
Dual citizenship. Armenia has allowed it since 2007, and the Russian passport is kept. The Russian Interior Ministry must be notified of the second citizenship within 60 days.
Military service. Male Armenian citizens aged 18 to 27 are liable for 2 years of conscript service, so families with sons of that age settle the question before applying.
Taxes. The passport does not make you an Armenian tax resident: residence starts after 183 days in the country in a year. Personal income tax for residents is a flat 20%.
Children. A child of an Armenian citizen is an Armenian citizen by birth.
How to get a Armenian passport
The main route for Russian citizens is naturalisation: from age 18 after 3 years of legal residence in Armenia on a residence permit, with basic Armenian and a Constitution test. People of Armenian descent need neither residence nor the language test: descent is proven with documents on parents or ancestors.
Armenia has no citizenship by investment programme. The residence permit for future naturalisation is usually obtained through work, business or family, and the 3 years count from its issue. Citizenship is granted by decree of the President of Armenia, and the application is filed in Armenia or at an Armenian consulate abroad.
Requirements, timelines and documents are on the page Armenian citizenship.
An Armenian passport means a residence permit, three years and an exam
The law does not forbid applying for Armenian citizenship on your own. But mistakes cost more than the fees: a residence permit on the wrong grounds, breaks in residence, descent documents without an apostille and translation, an exam without preparation. We choose the grounds for residence, count the time to filing, prepare descent documents and see the application through to the passport.
The cost of support depends on the grounds and your family; a manager will calculate it in the chat.
