Cheapest countries to retire abroad

  • No income threshold - Georgia, Armenia, Paraguay and Montenegro, where the ground is your own home or a visa-free stay.
  • Serbia - funds of about $620 a month and your own home, and pensions are not taxed.
  • Bulgaria - a pension from $700 a month, and compulsory insurance pensions are exempt from tax.
  • The Philippines - a pension from $800 a month and a $15,000 deposit give an indefinite status at once.
  • Costa Rica - a lifetime pension from $1,000 a month, permanent status after 3 years, and foreign income is not taxed.
  • Thailand - a pension from 65,000 baht a month or 800,000 baht in the account, with a yearly renewal.

All 28 retirement visas with income thresholds and taxes on pensions are compared in best places to retire abroad.

Cheap countries where it is easy to stay

A low budget only helps if you can live in the country legally for longer than a tourist trip. The simplest options among the cheap countries:

  • A visa-free year - Georgia for citizens of about 95 countries; Armenia allows up to 180 days a year for many nationalities.
  • Residence for remote work - Hungary, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand issue permits for people who work for foreign clients; the list and income requirements are on the digital nomad visa page.
  • Residence through a home - Georgia from $150,000, Montenegro and Serbia through your own flat.
  • Permanent residence at once - Paraguay with an investment from $70,000; citizenship there is possible after 3 years with permanent residence.

The countries where residence comes fastest and with the fewest documents are compared in easiest countries to get residency.

We will help you choose an affordable country and stay there legally

A cheap country pays off only when the residence, the lease and the taxes are sorted from the start. The most common mistakes: a lease that does not work for address registration, a budget without winter heating bills or the summer rate by the sea, an income threshold for residence that is higher than the cost of living, and tax residency left in the previous country. We match a country to your income and passport, arrange the residence permit, check the lease and open a local account.

Details and the cost of support are with a manager in the chat.

How to keep the cost of living low

  1. Choose the second city: rent outside the capital is often 30-45% lower, as in Debrecen, Burgas or Penang.
  2. Sign a long lease of 6-12 months: monthly and holiday rates are higher, especially by the sea in summer.
  3. Count rent in the currency you earn: in Georgia and Montenegro rent is often quoted in dollars or euros, while groceries are paid in local money.
  4. Check taxes before you move: after 183 days you usually become a tax resident, and in Georgia, Panama, Costa Rica and Malaysia foreign income is not taxed or is exempt under conditions.
  5. Keep a reserve for the first three months: deposit, agency fee, insurance and residence fees.

How Murblz helps

We calculate the budget for your family and city, choose a country where your income is enough and there are legal grounds to stay, arrange the residence permit, help rent a home on a proper lease and open a local account. Mistakes cost more than advice: a lease that does not work for address registration, a budget without winter heating bills, or a country where the income threshold for residence is higher than the cost of living.
