In detail
In 2026 life in Qatar costs one person $1,500 to $2,400 a month including rent, and a family of 4 $3,100 to $4,700 excluding school fees. Housing is the main item: a one-bedroom flat in Doha costs $1,710 on average. Petrol, electricity and the metro are inexpensive, and there is no income tax.
Below are prices by item: rent, utilities, transport, groceries, healthcare and schools. Electricity and water tariffs, petrol prices and the minimum wage come from official data for October 2026. Amounts are converted at the fixed rate of 1 dollar = 3.64 Qatari riyals and rounded up.
How much you need to live in Qatar each month
We added up the main costs at October 2026 prices:
- One person - $1,500 to $2,400: rent $970 to $1,710, utilities $41 to $68, groceries $420 to $470, transport $40 to $120.

Renting a home in Doha
A one-bedroom flat in Doha costs $970 to $2,610 a month, $1,710 on average. The average flat of any size costs $1,680 and a villa $3,300 a month. The price depends above all on the area: by the sea and on The Pearl island it is higher, in residential areas further from the centre it is lower.
Rent is usually paid by cheques a year ahead and the lease is registered, which requires a residence card.

You can also buy a home: a flat from $200,600 in designated areas gives residence without an employer sponsor, and from $1,003,000 it comes with permanent resident benefits, including public healthcare and education. We will find a property at these prices - see property in Qatar.

The Pearl is one of the areas where a foreigner can buy a flat outright and get residence.
Healthcare and insurance
Public clinics require a health card: for a resident from outside the Gulf states it costs $28, and renewal is also $28.
Under the healthcare services law, the employer pays for an employee's basic health insurance. Since 2023, visitors to the country buy insurance for $14 a month.
Schools for children
Private and international schools set their fees in agreement with the Ministry of Education. From the 2027-2028 school year a new policy applies: a school must notify parents 18 months before any fee increase. For 2026-2027, increases were approved for 54 schools and kindergartens out of 99 that applied.
Salaries and taxes

There is no income tax on salaries, so you keep all of your income. Companies with foreign ownership pay 10% corporate tax. We will set up a company for you end to end - see company registration in Qatar.
