In short: who each country suits

  • Dominica - for those who want a second passport with visa-free Schengen and UK access for the least money.
  • St Kitts and Nevis - for those who value more visa-free destinations, no income tax and the oldest programme with a reputation.
  • For a family of four the donation starts at $250,000 in both, so the passport and taxes make the difference.

Dominica and St Kitts and Nevis are two Caribbean countries that grant citizenship for a donation to a state fund or the purchase of approved property. Both give a passport with no requirement to live on the island, allow dual citizenship and open the Schengen area and the UK without a visa. St Kitts and Nevis has run its programme since 1984, Dominica since 1993.

Below are one table of 15 rows and the five main differences: terms and price, the passport itself, taxes, costs and island life. Neither programme accepts applications from citizens of Russia and Belarus, so for them the comparison is only a reference.

A Caribbean passport is chosen by due diligence, not just by price

The difference in donation between Dominica and St Kitts is $50,000, but a refusal after due diligence costs more: processing and due diligence fees are not refunded. The law does not stop you applying on your own. But mistakes cost more than the donation: incomplete proof of the source of funds, an unprepared interview, property outside the approved list and an applicant from a country whose citizens the programme does not accept. We check whether the programme suits you, collect the source of funds documents, prepare you for the interview and handle the case up to the passport. We guarantee professional work and a transparent process, and in most cases a result on the first application.

The cost of support depends on the programme and your family; a manager will calculate it in the chat.

Programme terms: where is it easier

In Dominica the minimum fund donation is $200,000 for a single applicant and $250,000 for a family of up to four. Instead of a donation you can buy approved property from $200,000. An interview is required for all applicants aged 16 and over, and processing takes 3-6 months.

In St Kitts and Nevis the donation is from $250,000 for a family of up to four, and property from $325,000 with a mandatory 7-year holding period. Due diligence costs $10,000 for the main applicant and $7,500 for each family member aged 16 and over, and the interview can be held online.

The passport: what it gives

A St Kitts and Nevis passport opens 157 destinations without a prior visa, a Dominica passport 144. Both countries are on the visa-free lists of the Schengen area and the UK, while the USA requires a visa for both.

Neither country requires you to live on the island before or after getting the passport, both allow dual citizenship, and citizenship passes to children.

Taxes: where are they lower

St Kitts and Nevis has no personal income tax. That makes it convenient for those who actually plan to live on the island.

Dominica does have income tax: a resident is someone who spends 183 days a year there. If you do not live on the island, the passport alone does not make you a Dominica tax resident, and you pay tax where you live.

Cost: what the passport and life cost

For a single applicant the total is from $210,000 in Dominica with fees and due diligence and from $260,000 in St Kitts and Nevis. For a family of four the gap almost disappears: the donation starts at $250,000 in both, but due diligence for each adult is higher in St Kitts and Nevis.

Life in Dominica is cheaper: a one-bedroom flat in Roseau costs from $260 a month, and a single budget is about $1,300. St Kitts and Nevis is a resort island with higher prices, especially for seaside housing and imported groceries.

Island life: what is different

Dominica is a nature island: mountains, rainforest, waterfalls and hot springs, but few beaches and a small capital. People come for quiet and ecotourism.

St Kitts and Nevis is a two-island resort state with beaches, golf, international hotel chains and direct flights to the USA. Life is more convenient but more expensive.
