Cyprus and the Emirates are the two main destinations for entrepreneurs, investors and professionals moving their business from one country to another. The Emirates win with zero income tax and long visas, but almost never grant citizenship to foreigners. Cyprus is an EU country with taxes, reliefs for newcomers and a clear path to a European passport.

Cyprus and the Emirates are chosen by the tax on your income and the right to an EU passport
Both countries are favoured by entrepreneurs and investors, but Cyprus offers a path to an EU passport and reliefs for newcomers without Cypriot domicile, while the Emirates offer zero income tax without citizenship. The usual mistakes: moving to Cyprus without non-domicile status and paying the levy on dividends, setting up a UAE company without real presence and getting questions from your home tax office, not counting the time to citizenship from day one. We compare the options for your income and handle the case until the card.
The cost of support depends on the country, the ground and your family; a manager will calculate it in the chat.
Residence: where it is easier to get
In Cyprus residence is obtained through employment at a foreign-interest company or owning one, as a remote worker earning from €3,500 a month, or as a home buyer: a purchase from €300,000 gives permanent residence.
In the Emirates residence is granted through employment, a free zone company, a freelance permit or a remote work visa. An owner of property from 750,000 dirhams gets a 2-year visa, from 2 million dirhams a 10-year golden visa.
Citizenship: where it is faster
Cyprus grants citizenship by naturalisation after 7 years of residence within the last 10 plus one continuous year before applying, about 8 years in all. Highly skilled employees of approved companies earning from €2,500 a month can apply after 3-5 years with Greek. You may keep your current citizenship.
The Emirates almost never grant citizenship to foreigners, but the 10-year golden visa is renewed as long as the ground remains.
Taxes: where they are lower
The Emirates have no personal income tax, and companies pay 9% on profit above 375,000 dirhams. In Cyprus from 2026 the first €22,000 of income a year is tax-free, then rates run from 20% to 35%, and corporate tax is 15%.
Newcomers without Cypriot domicile pay no levy on dividends and interest for 17 years, and professionals earning over €55,000 a year get an extra relief. You can become a Cypriot tax resident in 60 days if the conditions of the 60-day rule are met.
Cost of living: where it is cheaper
A single person in Limassol needs $2,200-3,200 a month including rent, in Dubai $3,500-5,000. A one-bedroom flat in central Limassol costs $1,240-1,920, in Dubai Marina $2,160-3,640.
A family with a child needs from $4,300 a month in Cyprus and from $7,500 in the Emirates: the main difference is rent and international schools. Life in Nicosia and Larnaca is cheaper than in Limassol.
Everyday life: banks, climate, schools
Cyprus is a Mediterranean island with hot summers, mild winters and English in business life. EU banks screen clients more strictly, but a Cypriot account opens access to European payments.
The Emirates have a hot climate with summers up to 45°C, world-class services and dozens of international schools. Banks screen clients strictly, and an account is hard to open without a resident visa.
