The Cyprus Remote Work Visa suits foreign nationals who work for themselves or for a company based abroad. It is issued for one year and can be renewed for two more.

Who can get the visa

The visa is open to foreign nationals working for themselves or for a company abroad. It is issued for up to one year, with the option to renew it for another two years.

Income requirements

The minimum income is €3,500 per month. If a spouse comes with you, you need an additional 20% of that amount, plus another 15% for each dependent child.

Taxes

Personal income tax in Cyprus is progressive: the first €22,000 a year is tax-free, from €22,001 to €32,000 the rate is 20%, from €32,001 to €42,000 it is 25%, from €42,001 to €72,000 it is 30%, and above €72,000 it is 35%. More in our guide to Cyprus taxes.

Cost of living

A family of four needs around €2,700 per month to live in Cyprus excluding rent, and a single person around €800. Renting a one-bedroom apartment in the city centre costs around €900 per month.

We work out the exact income requirement for your family and your tax burden on a free consultation.

We will check online whether your income is enough with your family included and calculate the visa cost for each member.

Who can apply and what is not allowed

  • Non-EU/EEA nationals working remotely over the internet.
  • The employer or clients must be outside Cyprus: no work for Cypriot companies or services to Cyprus residents.
  • The permit is a visitor's residence permit and does not cover employment in Cyprus.
  • A spouse and minor children get permits for the same term but cannot work in Cyprus either.

Income for families

Applicant and spouse€4,200, ~$4,800
Couple and one child€4,725, ~$5,300

Quota and processing

Permits are capped. In 2025 the quota was doubled from 500 to 1,000; permits are issued first come, first served, and the migration service does not publish how many remain. Processing takes 5-7 weeks. You apply in Cyprus, at the Migration Department head office in Nicosia, within 3 months of arrival.

Documents and where to get them

  • Passport valid 3 months beyond the permit.
  • Employment contract or client contracts; for your own company, its foreign registration documents.
  • 6 months of bank statements showing €3,500 a month.
  • Police clearance with apostille from your country of citizenship.
  • Private comprehensive health insurance: inpatient, outpatient, repatriation.
  • Medical tests for HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and C and a chest X-ray, done in Cyprus.
  • Housing: lease or title deed plus a utility bill.

Steps and timeline

  1. Preparation before entry, 2-4 weeks. Police clearance, apostille, translations, statements.
  2. Entry and housing. Lease and insurance.
  3. Medical tests, 1 week. At an accredited lab in Cyprus.
  4. Filing in Nicosia. Within 3 months of entry, with fees.
  5. Processing, 5-7 weeks. Then the residence card is issued.
  6. Renewal. After a year, with new statements; 3 years in total at most.

Healthcare

Digital nomad permit holders are outside Cyprus's public health system, so private comprehensive insurance for the whole stay is required. Standard travel insurance is not accepted. Children under 15 take a skin test for tuberculosis instead of an X-ray.

How to get approved the first time

  • income below the threshold in any statement month;
  • Cypriot companies or residents among clients;
  • incomplete or travel-only insurance;
  • filing later than 3 months after entry;
  • quota exhausted at the time of filing.

Taxes for nomads in Cyprus

Spend more than 183 days in Cyprus in a calendar year and you become tax resident, taxed on worldwide income. From 1 January 2026 the new scale applies:

Annual incomeRate
up to €22,000, ~$24,7000%
€22,001-32,00020%
€32,001-42,00025%
€42,001-72,00030%
over €72,000, ~$80,70035%

Non-domiciled residents pay no special defence contribution on dividends and interest for 17 years. Those earning €55,000+ a year who had not lived in Cyprus for the previous 15 years can claim a 50% exemption on employment income. More on the Cyprus taxes page.

What the nomad permit does not give

Years on this permit do not count towards permanent residence or citizenship. If you need long-term status, build it separately, for example through a Cyprus residence permit by investment from €300,000.

Comparison with neighbours

CountryIncome a monthTerm
Cyprus€3,5001 year, renewable to 3
Greece€3,5001-year visa, then a 2-year permit
Croatiafrom €3,622.50up to 18 months
Spain€2,8493 years, renewable for 2

Cyprus wins on taxes for non-domiciled residents and everyday English; Spain is easier on income, Croatia on tax on foreign income.

In practice: where to live and how to enter

  • Enter only through Larnaca or Paphos airports or Republic of Cyprus seaports. Entry via the north of the island, outside the Republic's control, is treated as illegal and can cost you the permit.
  • Limassol is the most expensive city and the hub for international companies; Nicosia is the capital, cheaper and close to government offices; Larnaca has the airport and moderate prices; Paphos is quieter and popular with families.
  • Traffic drives on the left; intercity buses exist, but inside cities a car helps.
  • English works almost everywhere, and government offices accept documents in Greek or English.

What we do

We calculate the income threshold for your family, prepare certificates and translations before entry, arrange insurance, book medical tests and support filing in Nicosia and renewal. We also model taxes: whether to become resident and how to obtain non-dom status. We fix our fee in writing after a free consultation.
