How many pounds a dollar buys in Juba: the rate over a year

The Bank of South Sudan publishes two rates on its website: the rate at which banks sell currency and the rate at which they buy it. The recipient of a transfer exchanges dollars at the buying rate:

Your bank cannot see the recipient's bank in Juba or asks for a route through a third country? There are more options than it seems: tell a manager about your situation, and they will choose a legal route for your currency.

Mobile money and payments with neighbours: what the Bank of South Sudan is building

In 2026 the Bank of South Sudan is working on digital payments, and for the recipient this means faster settlements within the country and with neighbours in the East African Community:

  • on 19 May 2026 the governor discussed with experts a payment system for transfers between East African Community countries;
  • on 10-14 August 2026 a draft law on the national payment system was discussed in Juba: licences, electronic money, settlements, protection of client data;
  • on 25 August 2026 the bank published updated electronic money rules with the 2025 amendments, and the governor announced work with mobile money operators on expanding digital payments.

Money from abroad reaches South Sudan in dollars to a bank account, and the recipient then pays within the country in pounds. In South Sudan currency is bought and sold by banks and companies licensed by the Bank of South Sudan: this is stated in its circular published on 21 September 2026.

Mistakes cost more than fees: dollars exchanged at the selling rate instead of the buying rate, a transfer sent through a chain of banks with extra fees, the recipient's name in the payment not matching the document, a bank in Juba with no papers on the origin of the money. We will help you avoid them: we choose a legal transfer route from your country, check the transfer for your case, prepare documents on the origin of the money and carry out the transfer through licensed partners through to crediting.

Details and the cost are with a manager in the chat: the calculation depends on the amount, the currency and the sending country.
