In 2026 a euro in the Central African Republic is worth the same 655.957 francs as in the five neighbouring countries of the community. We explain how to send money to a bank in Bangui, why euros work better from Europe, what the 2018 investment charter gave 82 investors and which documents each amount needs.
Money is sent to the Central African Republic in euros or dollars to an account at a bank in Bangui, and the bank credits it in Central African francs. The euro rate is fixed at 655.957 francs per euro, and a dollar in October 2026 was worth about 587 francs. Almost every bank in the country works in the capital.

One currency for six countries: a franc pegged to the euro
The Central African Republic is one of the six countries of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa. The franc is issued by a shared central bank headquartered in Yaoundé, and since 1999 a euro has been worth exactly 655.957 francs. The same money circulates in Cameroon, Gabon, Chad, the Republic of the Congo and Equatorial Guinea, so transfers between these countries need no conversion.
For a transfer from Europe the fixed rate is convenient: €5,000 always becomes 3,279,785 francs. The dollar is exchanged at the daily rate, so an extra conversion from dollars to euros and back only eats into the money. A manager will suggest which currency suits your purpose.

The community's shared currency rules have applied since 1 March 2019. Under them a transfer from abroad passes through a bank in the country, which checks the payment purpose against the documents and credits the resident in francs. The figure 655.957 is no accident: from 1994, 100 community francs were worth 1 French franc, and in 1999 the euro replaced the French franc at 6.55957.
The 2018 investment charter: 82 investors and 327 billion francs
The country adopted its investment charter law in 2018, following the community's common investment charter. It gives companies investing in the country tax and duty incentives and sets out guarantees for foreign investors.
In his latest state of the nation address the president named the results: the charter attracted 82 investors with investments of 327 billion francs, about $560 million, and almost 10,000 future jobs. A non-resident sends income from invested capital abroad through a bank once taxes are paid.
If a regular transfer to Bangui is slow or the bank asks for a lot of paperwork, there are usually more options than it seems: a manager will suggest the route.

More about the capital is on the Bangui page. The city stands on the Ubangi river, directly opposite the shore of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
