An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, and careful preparation improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

A full account with banking codes needs a Finnish personal identity code, issued by the Digital and Population Data Services Agency or the tax administration at registration. With it the bank issues electronic identification, without which public services and online banking do not work.

FAQ

Can a non-resident open a bank account in Finland?
In practice, almost never. Access to banking runs through the Finnish personal identity code and strong electronic identification, both of which come with registered residence. A non-resident with no basis for living in the country will be turned down.
Do I need a Finnish personal identity code for an account?
Yes. Full banking service requires a henkilotunnus and bank identification credentials. You get them by registering in the population information system when you move, study or work there. Without them you are limited to stripped-down products at best.
Do EU citizens have a right to an account in Finland?
Yes. Under EU basic payment account rules, anyone legally resident in the EU is entitled to a basic account, and a bank can only refuse on defined grounds such as inability to identify you or sanctions risk. The right does not extend to credit or premium products. Identification is still mandatory.
Do I need to prove source of funds in Finland?
Yes. At onboarding and on significant transactions the bank asks where the money came from and wants documents - payslips, an asset sale contract, inheritance papers. Declining to answer leads to restricted transactions. This is an EU-wide standard, not one bank's quirk.
What is the tax on deposit interest in Finland?
30% on capital income up to €30,000 a year and 34% above.
Do you need a Finnish personal identity code for an account?
Yes, for a full account with electronic identification; it is issued at registration with the data agency or tax administration.

Are deposits insured in Finnish banks?
Yes, up to €100,000 per depositor per bank.
What is the transfer tax on buying a flat in Finland?
1.5% for a housing company flat and 3% for a house with land.
Can you open a Finnish account without an identity code?
A basic account is sometimes opened with a passport, but without the code there is no electronic identification for online banking and public services.
Does Finland have a property tax?
Yes, a municipal real estate tax of 0.41-2% of the taxable value a year.
Do you need to visit a Finnish bank in person?
Usually yes: identity checks and issuing electronic identification need a visit with your passport.
How long does a Finnish identity code take?
It is issued on registration with the data agency or tax administration; timing depends on appointments and document checks, usually a few weeks.
What is the income tax in Finland?
A progressive state scale plus municipal tax; the state part is 12.64% to 37.5%.
Can a foreigner open a Finnish account before moving?
