Business accounts: Serbia

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

Serbia is one of the most accessible destinations for opening an account abroad: the country is outside the EU, its banks are used to foreign clients, and the jurisdiction is popular with people who have relocated to the region or do business with it. We assist with account opening at Serbian banks: AIK, ALTA, Banca Intesa, Poštanska štedionica, Erste, Eurobank Direktna, OTP, ProCredit, Raiffeisen and UniCredit, plus ATC Bank and Bank of Serbia at a higher rate.

We assess your profile, recommend the banks where your chances are strongest, help prepare the documents and support the process through to the bank's decision. There are two rates: the standard one covers most banks on the list, while the higher rate applies to banks with a more labour-intensive procedure. As everywhere, the decision rests with the bank, but we are upfront about your prospects before any work begins.

An account for a Serbian company

A business account in Serbia is most often opened for your own limited liability company (DOO). Companies are registered by the Serbian Business Registers Agency, and since 17 May 2023 registration of limited liability companies has been electronic only. The minimum capital is RSD 100, and the registration fee is RSD 6,500, or RSD 5,900 when filed electronically. The company becomes a legal person on entry in the register, after which the bank opens its account.

We will calculate online the cost of opening an account for your company and maintaining it for a year.

Company taxes in Serbia

Corporate income tax in Serbia is a flat 15%, one of the lowest rates in the region, which is why a Serbian company is often chosen for work across the Balkans. More on our Serbia taxes page.

What the bank checks for a company

  • the register extract and articles, and details of the director and members;
  • the beneficial owners and their passports;
  • what the company does, who its clients are and which countries payments involve;
  • the origin of the capital and first receipts.

Banks are reluctant to open accounts for foreign companies with no activity in Serbia. If the business operates in the region, it is simpler and more reliable to register a Serbian company and open its account.

How a business account is opened

  1. Company. We register the limited liability company online with the Business Registers Agency.
  2. Bank. We choose a bank for turnover, currencies and payment countries.
  3. Documents. We prepare the register extract, owner details, business description and proof of funds.
  4. Meeting. The director or representative attends a bank meeting.
  5. Opening. The bank opens the account and the company can operate.

Why businesses are refused

  • the company has no activity in Serbia and the account is wanted only for transit;
  • an unclear ownership structure or nominees;
  • links to sanctioned countries;
  • no documents on the source of funds.

Assistance with opening an account in a Serbian bank costs $6,500, or $8,400 in banks with stricter requirements.

VAT and e-invoices

A Serbian company registers for VAT once its turnover in any 12 consecutive months exceeds 8 million dinars, about $76,500 at the 5 October 2026 rate, rounded up. The standard VAT rate is 20%. Invoices between companies are issued only electronically through the state system, and the bank compares account turnover with them, so an accountant is needed from the first month.

A Serbian bank will not open a transit account

The law does not stop you applying to a Serbian bank on your own. But mistakes cost more than the fee: a company with no activity in Serbia used only for transit, nominee participants in the structure, counterparties linked to sanctioned countries, and nobody available to attend the bank meeting. Murblz support removes these risks: we check whether the company is ready for the bank, disclose the structure and source of funds, choose the bank and support the meeting until the account opens. We guarantee professional work and a transparent process, and in most cases a result on the first filing.

The support fee depends on the bank, the company structure and turnover; a manager will calculate it in the chat.
