Malta Digital Nomad Visa
The Nomad Residence Permit for people who work remotely for a company outside Malta - issued for up to a year with the option to renew.

The Nomad Residence Permit is Malta's residence visa for foreign nationals who work remotely or are shareholders or partners in a company registered outside the country.
Visa requirements
- Who can apply. Foreign nationals who work for, or are shareholders or partners in, a company registered outside Malta.
- Citizens of Russia and Belarus. Their applications are not accepted at the moment. If you hold another citizenship, we will check before applying whether the program looks at all your passports. Without a second passport, another country from the nomad visa finder will fit.
- Period of validity. Up to one year with the possibility of renewal.
- Minimum income. Proof of an annual income of at least €42,000 gross - roughly €3,500 a month (the threshold in force since 1 April 2024); there is no extra income requirement for dependants.
- Taxes. Income from remote work is tax-free for the first 12 months, then taxed at a flat 10%.
Cost of living in Malta
Estimated monthly expenses for a family are about $3,160 excluding rent, and about $905 for a single person excluding rent. Renting a one-bedroom apartment in the city centre starts from $1,015 a month.
We will check online whether your income is enough with your family included and calculate the visa cost for each member.
Cost by item
- administrative fee - about $340 per applicant and per family member at application and at each renewal;
- the residence card fee;
- health insurance for the whole term;
- housing in Malta - from $1,015 a month for a one-bedroom apartment in the centre.
Our manager will calculate the cost of our support in the chat.
The fee is $340 per family member at every renewal
The law does not forbid applying for the Malta nomad visa on your own. But mistakes cost more than the fees: income below the threshold for the whole period, an employer or clients the programme does not recognise, a citizenship from the list whose applications are not accepted, insurance without the required cover, an unregistered lease. We check whether your citizenship and income qualify, prepare the application and documents for the whole family and handle renewals.
The cost of support depends on your family and type of income; a manager will calculate it in the chat.
Who cannot apply in 2026
Applications are not accepted from nationals of, or people with close ties to, the following countries: Afghanistan, North Korea, Iran, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Yemen, Russia, Belarus and Venezuela. If you hold another citizenship, we will check before filing how the programme treats it.
Documents
- Passport and photos.
- Proof of remote work: a contract with a foreign employer, client contracts or documents of your own foreign company.
- Proof of income from €42,000 gross a year.
- Health insurance for the whole term.
- A lease or purchase agreement for housing in Malta.
- A police certificate.
- Marriage and birth documents for family members.
Term and renewal
The permit is issued for a year from the date the residence card is issued and renewed while your work and income continue; the programme runs for no more than 4 years in total. At each renewal the about $340 administrative fee is paid again for every participant.
Common reasons for refusal
- citizenship of, or close ties to, a country on the ineligible list;
- income below €42,000 gross a year;
- no lease or purchase agreement for housing in Malta;
- the employer or clients are in Malta.
