Personal accounts: United Kingdom

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

A personal account in the United Kingdom is needed by people moving on a work, student or family visa, and by owners of UK property and companies. Banks are supervised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and the Financial Conduct Authority, and the currency is the pound sterling. The main difficulty for a newly arrived foreigner is proof of a UK address: without it major banks are reluctant to open accounts, while digital banks verify identity remotely and often open accounts faster.

How the opening works

  1. Choice of bank: a major bank, digital bank or private bank for your amount and status.
  2. Proof of address: if documents are not yet available, we use an employer or university letter and a tenancy agreement.
  3. Application online or at a branch, identity check.
  4. Card, online banking and, if needed, foreign currency and savings accounts.

Digital banks often open an account within a few days; major banks with a confirmed address within one or two weeks.

Who gets refused

The bank will refuse if the client cannot prove their address and lawful status, if the source of money cannot be proven with documents, or if the client or their money is linked to sanctions. UK banks check Russian citizens especially closely; we check whether an account can be opened before preparing documents.

What we do

Murblz specialists choose a bank for your status, help prove your address, prepare documents and the explanation of the source of funds, and support the account opening. If you are buying property or opening a UK company, we prepare the personal account together with them. For new arrivals we collect in advance the documents the bank will accept as proof of address. We fix the estimate in writing; the decision to open an account always rests with the bank.
