Business accounts: Tajikistan

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

A business account in Tajikistan is opened for a company registered in the country, or for a branch or representative office of a foreign company. Tajik banks almost never open accounts for a foreign firm without local registration. Legal entities, branches and representative offices are registered by the tax authorities on a single window basis: there is no state fee, the legal term is up to five working days, and since amendments at the end of 2022 one day is usually enough. At the same time the company receives a taxpayer identification number that the bank also uses.

A foreigner may own a Tajik company outright. The operating account is opened in somoni and foreign currency, usually at one of the large local banks: Amonatbonk, Orienbank, Eskhata, Spitamen, Arvand. The somoni is the national currency, at about 9.23 per US dollar at the National Bank rate. Almost all fees and fines are tied to the calculation indicator, which is 78 somoni for 2026, about US$8.50.

Documents for the bank

  • Registration certificate, taxpayer identification number, charter and founding decision.
  • Orders appointing the director and chief accountant, specimen signatures and the company seal if any.
  • Passports of the director, signatories and founders, ultimate owner details.
  • For a foreign founder, an extract from its home register. Documents from Russia and other CIS countries are accepted without an apostille under the Minsk Convention, from other countries with an apostille. Everything is translated into Tajik or Russian and notarised.
  • A business description, main counterparties and expected turnover.

Timeline step by step

  1. Preparing and translating the founder's documents - 1-2 weeks.
  2. Company registration at the single window - one to five working days.

  4. Online banking and a foreign currency account - right after opening.

Company taxes in 2026

  • Profit tax - 18%, since 1 January 2026 also for manufacturing (previously 13%). Banks and mobile operators pay 20%.

Good to know about money

  • The Deposit Insurance Fund does not cover legal entities: it protects individuals only, up to 35,000 somoni per depositor per bank.
  • Banks check large foreign currency transfers against contracts and invoices; payments to sanctioned countries and banks are delayed or rejected.
  • Tajik banks suit domestic and regional payments; for international trade you need a second account elsewhere.

Common reasons for refusal

  • No local registration or a nominal company address.
  • Undisclosed ultimate owners or founder documents without translation and certification.
  • Cash-heavy business or links to sanctioned persons.
  • The director cannot attend the bank in person.
