Business accounts: Lithuania

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

A company account in Lithuania is opened at a Lithuanian bank or an electronic money institution licensed by the Bank of Lithuania. Lithuania is one of the EU's largest financial technology hubs, so besides traditional banks there are many licensed payment institutions serving companies across the Union. The bank or institution works with a company registered in Lithuania, with a clear business and disclosed owners. Dollar amounts use the European Central Bank rate of 5 October 2026, $1.12 per euro.

The company for the account

  • Private limited company: the main business form; minimum capital €1,000, about $1,120, at least a quarter paid in before registration.
  • Small partnership: for small businesses with individual members, no minimum capital.
  • Registration in the Register of Legal Entities, including online with an electronic signature; the name is reserved and articles prepared first.
  • Beneficial owner details are filed in the legal entity participants information system and updated on changes.

We will calculate online the cost of opening an account for your company and maintaining it for a year.

Taxes the bank will see

  • Corporate income tax: 17% from 2026, previously 16%. Small companies get a reduced rate subject to revenue and headcount conditions.
  • VAT: 21%.
  • The bank compares account turnover with returns the company files with the State Tax Inspectorate.

Director, staff and payments

  • The director can be a non-resident, but a non-EU national who will personally work in Lithuania needs a residence permit with the right to work.
  • Staff are registered with the social insurance fund, and contributions are paid monthly from the company account.
  • Instant euro payments. The Bank of Lithuania's payment system gives banks and licensed institutions direct access to European transfers, so payments within the EU are fast.

What the bank checks

  • articles, a Register of Legal Entities extract and beneficial owner details;
  • passports and tax residency of directors and owners;
  • business model, contracts, clients and suppliers, payment countries;
  • origin of capital and expected turnover;
  • the company's link to Lithuania: office, staff, a director on site.

Protection of funds and sanctions

Bank deposits are protected up to €100,000, about $112,100, per depositor, companies included. Money held with electronic money institutions is not covered by deposit insurance, but the institution must keep it separate from its own funds. Banks apply EU Regulation 833/2014, and owners and directors with Russian or Belarusian nationality are checked especially strictly.

How opening works

  1. Company registration and beneficial owner details.
  2. Choosing a bank or electronic money institution for your payments.
  3. Document file and origin of capital.
  4. The director's identity check by video or at a branch.
  5. Account opening, instant euro payments and online banking.

Why applications are refused

  • The company has no activity in Lithuania and exists only for the account.
  • Beneficial owners or origin of capital not disclosed.
  • High-risk activity without a clear explanation and licences.
  • Sanctions risk among owners and counterparties.
  • Turnover does not match returns filed with the tax inspectorate.
  • The director cannot show they actually manage the company.
