An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, and careful preparation improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

A company for the account in El Salvador

A corporate account in El Salvador is opened for a local company: it is registered in the national register, obtains a tax number and appoints a legal representative. Payments in the country are in US dollars, so there is no currency risk on local revenue. El Salvador taxes only income from Salvadoran sources, which matters for a company with foreign clients when choosing the structure.

Why accounts are declined

  • No real activity in El Salvador and no local representative with documents and an address.
  • Inflows from crypto platforms without a clear source of funds.
  • Incomplete beneficial owner information.

We prepare the file to the bank's requirements and support you until the decision. If the bank will not take the structure, we suggest another country in the region or a payment solution for settlements.

Company taxes and bitcoin after the 2025 reform

A company in El Salvador pays 30% income tax, or 25% if its taxable income for the year does not exceed $150,000. VAT is 13%. On 29 January 2025 parliament amended the bitcoin law: accepting bitcoin is now voluntary and taxes are paid only in US dollars. For the bank this means crypto inflows are checked as strictly as anywhere else, and their origin must be documented.

FAQ

Can a foreigner open a company account in El Salvador?
Yes, but through a local company: registration with the national registry, an NIT tax number and an appointed legal representative. Banks are conservative and look closely at foreign beneficial owners. An account for an offshore company with no Salvadoran registration is close to impossible.
Do I need a local representative for a company account?
Yes, the company needs a legal representative, and banks strongly prefer one holding a local ID and address. A foreigner can hold the role, but expect to need residency status or at minimum in-person visits. Without someone on the ground, day-to-day operations get cumbersome.
What does a Salvadoran bank ask for on a corporate account?
Incorporation documents, the NIT, ownership details, a description of the activity, expected turnover and source of capital, plus reference letters. Cash-intensive businesses and crypto-related flows draw particular caution. Review takes weeks, not days.
Do Salvadoran banks work with crypto?
Bitcoin was given legal tender status in 2021, but traditional banks remain cautious with crypto assets and inflows from exchanges get enhanced scrutiny. Licensed digital asset providers exist separately, but that is not the same as a bank account. Expect detailed questions on where the crypto came from.
In what currency is a company account opened in El Salvador?
In US dollars: it is El Salvador's national currency, so local revenue and payments need no conversion.
Does El Salvador tax a company's foreign income?
El Salvador taxes only income from Salvadoran sources. We check how this applies to your structure before forming the company and opening the account.
What income tax does a company pay in El Salvador?
30%, or 25% if taxable income for the year does not exceed $150,000. VAT is 13%. Taxes are paid only in US dollars: since 2025 they cannot be paid in bitcoin.
Can taxes be paid in bitcoin in El Salvador?
No. Since the amendments of 29 January 2025 taxes are paid only in US dollars, and companies are not obliged to accept bitcoin as payment.
