Money is sent to Kosovo in euros to an account at a bank in Pristina or another town: the euro has been the country's only currency since 2002, so no exchange is needed. Kosovo is not yet part of the single euro payments area, and a transfer from Germany or Switzerland goes as an international one, usually in 1-2 business days. In 2025 about 1.4 billion euros arrived here from abroad.

Transfers from relatives: 1.4 billion euros a year, most of all from Germany and Switzerland
According to the Central Bank of Kosovo, transfers from abroad grew to about 1.4 billion euros ($1.6 billion) in 2025. Most of the money comes from Germany and Switzerland, where most of those who left for work live. The biggest months are August and December.

Money for family is most conveniently sent to the recipient's account in euros: nothing needs to be exchanged, and the sum arrives with no loss on the rate.
If you send money to relatives every month, a manager will suggest how to do it for less.
Why euros from Germany go as an international transfer
Kosovo uses the euro without an agreement with the European Union and is not yet part of the single euro payments area. The central bank submitted a preliminary application in October 2024 and will submit the final one once the new payment laws take effect. Until then euros from Europe go through a correspondent bank: the sender needs the recipient's 20-character account number, starting with the country letters, and the bank code.
If an ordinary transfer comes out expensive or slow for your sum, there are usually more working options than it seems: tell a manager how you send money now.
A deposit at a bank in Kosovo: 5,000 euros insured
The Deposit Insurance Fund of Kosovo returns up to 5,000 euros ($5,600) per depositor at each bank; this limit has applied since 1 January 2018. So money for buying a flat or building a house is sent closer to the date of payment to the seller or developer.

We will help you send money to Kosovo
Mistakes cost more than fees: euros from Germany without the recipient's full name and 20-character account number, francs exchanged twice, money for a house sitting for months in one account above the deposit insurance, and a large transfer without papers on the origin of the money. We will help you avoid them: we will choose the transfer route, collect documents on the origin of the money for the bank in Pristina and carry out the transfer through licensed partners through to crediting.
Details and the cost are with a manager in the chat: much depends on the amount, the currency and the purpose of the transfer.
The amount of a transfer to Pristina and the documents that explain it
Up to $10,000. The payment purpose is enough: family support, a wedding, studies.
$10,000-$100,000. The bank will ask for a six-month statement and a document on the money: a salary certificate from Germany or Switzerland, a sale contract or a gift agreement.
From $100,000. A package on the origin of wealth and a purchase contract are prepared; details are in proof of source of funds and sending a large sum abroad, and moving capital is on the capital relocation page. A manager will calculate the terms of such a transfer before it is sent.
