Bermuda on the world map

Bermuda's remote work programme, a one-year certificate for remote employees, the self-employed and students, closed on 28 February 2025, and no new applications are accepted. The government cited housing policy: freeing homes for local residents. Remote workers can now use permission to reside on an annual basis for people with foreign income.

What happened to the remote work programme

Bermuda's Ministry of Economy and Labour announced that the programme ended on 28 February 2025, with no applications accepted from that date. About 1,800 people used it while it ran. Holders of valid certificates were given 90 days after expiry to settle their affairs and leave. Those wishing to stay could apply for permission to reside 1-2 months before their certificate expired.

Permission to reside on an annual basis: conditions

  • Income - at least $75,000 a year from abroad.
  • Health insurance - private, for the whole stay.
  • Age - 18 or over.
  • Work - no work in Bermuda, but remote work for an employer or clients abroad is allowed.
  • Presence - at least 90 days per calendar year on the island.
  • Term - called annual, but in practice it can be granted for up to 5 years.

Cost in 2026

  • permission to reside fee - $275 for up to one year, longer periods per government tariff;
  • private health insurance for the whole stay;
  • police certificates, apostille and certified copies;
  • rent: Bermuda is one of the world's most expensive places to live;
  • our support, if you hand preparation to us.

Income of $75,000 a year is a condition, not a payment. For a family, fees and insurance are paid for each member; a manager will calculate the total in the chat.

The remote work programme closed in February 2025

The law does not prevent applying for the annual residence permit on your own. But mistakes cost more than the $275 fee: many people still prepare documents for the closed remote work programme, income below $75,000 a year does not qualify, and insurance that does not cover the whole term or fewer than 90 days on the island put the permit at risk. Murblz support removes these risks: we choose the route that is open now, gather proof of income, apostilled police certificates and proof of housing, and plan your days on the island. We guarantee professional work and a transparent process, and in most cases a result on the first filing.

The support fee depends on your family and the length of the permit; a manager will calculate it in the chat.

Who is refused

  • income below $75,000 a year or unproven;
  • plans to work for Bermudian companies;
  • no insurance for the whole stay;
  • a criminal record or past entry violations;
  • no intention to spend 90 days a year on the island.

Taxes

Bermuda has no personal income tax, capital gains tax or dividend tax. Payroll tax is paid by employers on the island and usually does not affect a remote worker for a foreign company. Taxes in your country of tax residence remain, so we calculate them before the move. See taxes in Bermuda.

Risks and what may change

  • Housing policy. The remote work programme was closed to free homes for locals, and rules for foreigners may tighten further.
  • High living costs - rent and groceries on the island are very expensive.
  • The 90-day requirement must be met to keep permission.
  • Local work is banned; breaching it costs the permission.
