Aruba on the world map

Aruba offers a digital nomad option through its One Happy Workation program. It is open to US citizens only: you need to be employed or self-employed outside Aruba and select "One Happy Workation" in the online ED card on entry. You can stay on the island for up to 90 days.

Visa requirements

The program is available to US citizens only. No separate visa is required: you need to be employed or self-employed outside Aruba and select "One Happy Workation" as your purpose of travel in the online ED card. Stays of up to 90 days are allowed. There is no minimum income, and no Aruban tax is paid on income under the program.

Cost of living

A family of four spends about $4,200 a month excluding rent. A single person needs about $1,200 excluding rent. A one-bedroom apartment in the centre costs about $1,100.

We confirm exact conditions and documents for your situation on a free consultation.

How to join the program

  1. Complete Aruba's online ED card no earlier than 7 days before travel; it is mandatory for all travellers.
  2. Select One Happy Workation as the purpose of travel.
  3. Give your accommodation for the whole stay.
  4. Carry proof of work outside Aruba.

There are no fees for the program and confirmation is instant.

We will check online whether your income is enough with your family included and calculate the visa cost for each member.

Restrictions

  • US citizens with a valid passport only.
  • Working for Aruban employers or clients is not allowed.
  • The stay is up to 90 days; it is not a residence permit.

If you are not a US citizen: residence permits

GroundMain condition
Retiree aged 55+guaranteed income of at least AWG 50,000 a year, ~$28,000
Person of independent meansincome from capital or deposits of at least AWG 100,000 a year, ~$55,900

Permits are issued by Aruba's immigration service (DIMAS) for 1 year and renewed annually. They do not allow local employment. Residents must join Aruba's general health insurance (AZV).

Documents for a residence permit

  • Passport and apostilled birth certificate.
  • Police clearance no older than 2 months.
  • Bank references and proof of income.
  • Home and work addresses for the last 10 years.
  • A statement of why you are moving to Aruba.

Cost by item in 2026

  • sustainability fee on entry - $20 per person aged 8 and over, once per calendar year, paid with the electronic embarkation card;
  • travel health insurance - at the insurer's rate;
  • housing - about $1,100 a month for a one-bedroom apartment in the centre;
  • for a residence permit - migration service fees, apostilles and document translations, and contributions to Aruba's general health insurance.

Our manager will calculate the cost of our support in the chat and confirm it in writing.

Residence permit timelines and common refusals

Aruba's migration service usually decides a residence application 2-4 months after receiving a complete file. The permit is issued for a year and renewed annually. Applications are most often returned or refused when the police certificate is older than 2 months, income is not proven for the full threshold or the form lacks addresses for all 10 years.

What changed in 2025-2026

Since 1 July 2024 everyone flying into Aruba has paid a $20 sustainability fee, and since 6 December 2024 it has been mandatory for every traveller aged 8 and over. Since 1 January 2026 pensioners aged 65 and over pay no general health insurance contribution on the first 30,000 florins of annual income, about $16,800.
