Personal accounts: Qatar

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assist with opening accounts at Qatari banks: AlRayan Bank, Commercial Bank of Qatar, Doha Bank, QIIB, QIB and QNB. This service is for people doing business in Qatar or the wider Gulf region, working with local counterparties, or considering the region as a base for their company and personal finances. Qatari banks are conservative: they look closely at your connection to the country, source of funds and the nature of your business, so how the application is prepared matters a great deal.

We start by assessing your profile - business structure, residency and goals - and then shortlist banks where an application is realistic. From there we prepare the document package, help you complete the bank forms correctly and handle communication with the bank until a decision is made. The decision always rests with the bank. We also run seminars on the advantages of doing business in Qatar and on residency options across the Middle East.

Personal account: resident and non-resident

Qatari banks open personal accounts mainly for residents holding a Qatar ID: the bank identifies the client by it, and a salary certificate or sponsor letter confirms income. Only a few banks open accounts for non-residents, on stricter terms: a high minimum balance and a limited range of transactions.

We will calculate online the cost of opening a personal account and maintaining it for a year.

Documents the bank asks for

  • Passport and Qatar ID, or proof of the ID application.
  • Salary certificate or a letter from the employer or sponsor.
  • Statements and a reference letter from your bank at home.
  • Source of funds declaration.
  • For non-residents, a visa or entry stamp and a foreign address.

Taxes and status

Qatar has no personal income tax: salaries, deposit interest and private rental income are not taxed, and there is no annual property tax. The quickest route to a Qatar ID without an employer is buying property from QAR 730,000, about $200,600, which gives residency for as long as you own it. Investments from QAR 3,650,000, about $1,002,800, give permanent residency with access to public healthcare and education.

What we do

We assess whether a bank will open an account without a Qatar ID in your case, prepare the documents and source of funds explanation, and support the bank visit. If you have no Qatar ID, we run the property purchase and residency application in parallel. Dollar amounts use the fixed rate of QAR 3.64 per dollar, rounded up.

Currency and transfers

The Qatari riyal is pegged to the dollar at a fixed QAR 3.64 per dollar, so riyal balances do not lose value against the dollar. Banks keep accounts in riyals and major currencies and ask for documents on the origin of large incoming transfers.

Only a few Qatari banks open accounts for non-residents

The law does not stop you opening a personal account in Qatar on your own. But mistakes cost more than the fee: without a resident card only a few banks open an account, with a high minimum balance and a limited set of operations, and a large incoming transfer without documents on the origin of funds gets held. Murblz support removes these risks: we choose the bank, prepare the income certificate and reference letter, and if you have no resident card we handle a property purchase from 730,000 riyals and the residence application. We guarantee professional work and a transparent process, and in most cases a result on the first filing.

The support fee depends on your status and the bank; a manager will calculate it in the chat.

It depends on the bank and the type of account. Some steps can be handled remotely, others require a personal visit. We clarify this when shortlisting banks for your case.
