Company formation in Greece in 2026

A private capital company (IKE) with capital from €1, one-stop registration in 1-3 business days, 22% corporate tax. We arrange tax numbers, documents and registration turnkey.

Greece is an EU and euro area member with a growing economy, tourism, shipping, property and IT. A company here suits the EU market, tourism and rentals, trade with the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean, and as part of a relocation plan.

Companies are registered by the General Commercial Registry (GEMI) through an electronic one-stop shop, and taxes are administered by the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE). Dollar amounts below use the European Central Bank rate of 5 October 2026, $1.1204 per euro, rounded up.

Which company to set up in Greece

  • Private capital company (IKE) - the most popular form for small and medium businesses. Capital from €1, which can be contributed in cash, in kind, or even as services or guarantees. A single shareholder is allowed.
  • Limited liability company (EPE) - an older form, now chosen less often.
  • Société anonyme (AE) - capital from €25,000, about $28,100, for larger projects, licensed activities and raising investors.
  • Branch of a foreign company - for an existing company to operate in Greece.

Shareholders and the director can be foreigners, and the director does not have to live in Greece.

Tax number for a foreigner

Every shareholder and director needs a Greek tax number (AFM). Since 2024, non-residents from inside and outside the EU can obtain it without a tax representative in Greece if they agree to receive notices electronically at the contact details they register. The number is issued online or through an attorney, and it is the first step before company registration.

Government costs in Greece are small: most of the cost is tax numbers, the address, translations and the accountant. Our turnkey packages are in the price table below.

Nominal capital and a fee of about $70, but no registration without the founders' tax numbers

The law does not stop you registering a company on your own. But mistakes cost more than the fees: founders without a Greek tax number, documents without an apostille and Greek translation, a company without a legal address and the accountant Greek law requires, and missing beneficial owner details. We obtain tax numbers for the founders, translate the documents, register the company through the one-stop shop in 1-3 working days, provide a legal address, connect an accountant and help open an account at a Greek bank.

Turnkey package prices are in the table on this page; a manager will calculate the total for your structure in the chat.

What taxes a company pays in Greece

  • Corporate income tax - 22%, a single rate for all forms.
  • VAT - 24% standard, reduced rates of 13% and 6%.
  • Dividends - 5% withholding.
  • Salaries - employer and employee contributions to the unified social security fund.

The company issues invoices through AADE's electronic books (myDATA), files monthly or quarterly VAT returns and an annual income tax return. An accountant is needed from the first month.

Obligations after registration

The company reports beneficial owners to the central register and updates them on every change of shareholdings, publishes annual accounts with GEMI, keeps electronic books of income and expenses and stores records in Greece. If it has staff, it registers as an employer and submits shift and payroll data to the labour ministry's electronic system. Late filings lead to fines, so we keep the compliance calendar for the client.

Why registration gets delayed

  • A shareholder or director has no Greek tax number.
  • There is no registered address agreement in Greece.
  • A foreign corporate shareholder's documents lack an apostille or Greek translation.
  • The name resembles an existing one.
  • The bank asks for a personal meeting and evidence of activity in Greece.
