Business accounts: Ukraine
An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.
Ukraine continues to operate under martial law, while its banking system remains stable and largely digital: companies open accounts, sign documents and file reports online. Banks are supervised by the National Bank of Ukraine. Currency restrictions have applied since February 2022, and the National Bank eases them in packages, the latest effective from 11 August 2026. A business account is opened for a Ukrainian company or a representative office of a foreign company.
A Ukrainian company and the account
| Question | How it works |
|---|---|
| Form | most often a limited liability company |
| Registration | with a state registrar, a notary or online; registering the company itself is free of charge |
| Foreign founder | documents with apostille and Ukrainian translation, a tax number for an individual founder |
| Ultimate beneficial owners | their details and an ownership structure chart are filed in the register |
| IT regime | residents of the special legal regime for IT companies enjoy reduced taxes |
We will calculate online the cost of opening an account for your company and maintaining it for a year.
What the bank will check
- A state register extract, articles, details of the director and beneficial owners.
- Founders' tax numbers and passports with Ukrainian translation.
- An ownership structure chart up to the ultimate beneficial owners.
- Business description, contracts, payment countries and currencies, source of capital.
- For corporate foreign founders, a register extract from their country with apostille.
Wartime currency rules
- Domestic payments are made in hryvnia, and foreign currency payments abroad go through the bank's currency control.
- Dividends may be transferred to foreign owners within a monthly limit that the National Bank raises step by step.
- The easing package of 11 August 2026 widened the list of permitted transactions and raised a number of limits for companies.
- The rules change often, so we check the payment scheme against the current National Bank resolution before each large transaction.
Company taxes
| Tax | Rate |
|---|---|
| Corporate income tax | 18% |
| Value added tax | 20% |
| Simplified system for small business | a single tax on turnover within set limits |
The special regime for IT companies
| Condition or benefit | How it works |
|---|---|
| Share of income from IT activity | at least 90% |
| Employees and contracted specialists | at least 9 on average |
| Average monthly pay | at least the equivalent of €1,200 |
| Corporate income tax | a choice of 18% under general rules or 9% on withdrawn capital |
| Tax on specialists' income | 5% plus a 5% military levy |
How the opening works
- Preparing and legalising founders' documents, tax numbers.
- Company registration and beneficial ownership details.
- Choosing a bank and submitting the pack, often online with the director's electronic signature.
- Bank review, answers to questions about the business and funds.
- Opening hryvnia and foreign currency accounts.
Company registration takes one to several business days, and opening the account a few days to two weeks if the foreign founders' documents are ready in advance.
Who gets refused
The bank will refuse if the ownership structure is opaque or beneficial owners are not disclosed, if foreign founders' documents are not legalised, if the source of capital cannot be proven, or if the company, its owners or counterparties are linked to sanctions. Under martial law Ukrainian banks generally do not serve Russian and Belarusian citizens.
