The goal
The main obstacle was the immigration requirements, especially proving her professional activity and income from several sources. Maria contacted Murblz for support with the digital nomad residence permit.
How to get a digital nomad residence permit in Spain
Spain grants this status under Law 14/2013 to people who work remotely for companies or clients outside Spain. Income must be at least 200% of the Spanish minimum wage, and a freelancer may take Spanish clients for no more than 20% of their work. Applicants need contracts with clients, a degree or 3 years of experience and a police certificate with an apostille and a sworn translation. A consulate issues a visa for up to 1 year, with a decision in 10 working days. From inside Spain the application is filed online: a residence permit for up to 3 years, a decision in 20 working days and a fee of about $85. After approval the applicant gives fingerprints at the police and receives a foreigner's identity card.
What we did
We reviewed her professional situation, defined the set of documents she needed and prepared the application. Contracts with foreign clients, payment records and documents about her remote work needed particular attention. Our team supported the filing and helped her respond quickly to questions that came up during the review.
Successful outcome
Maria successfully obtained her digital nomad residence permit and moved to Barcelona while keeping her international clients. The permit is renewed for 2 years at a time, and after 5 years in the country she can apply for permanent residence.
