Relocating to Argentina in 2026
Russians enter Argentina visa-free for 90 days, passive-income residence starts from $1,300 a month, and you can apply for a passport after 2 years in the country. Routes, the first weeks, costs and pitfalls.
In short
- Entry: Russians stay in Argentina visa-free for up to 90 days.
- Residence: passive-income residents and retirees need from $1,300 a month; state fees are about $80 per adult.
- Passport: you can apply for citizenship after 2 years in the country, decided by a federal court.
- Housing: a one-bedroom flat in Buenos Aires from $450 a month, $650-850 in Palermo.
- The main risk: bureaucracy and inflation - timelines and fees change often.
In detail
Argentina is the fastest legal route to a passport in the Americas: you can apply for citizenship after 2 years in the country, and dual citizenship with Russia is allowed. Russians enter visa-free for 90 days and apply for residence locally. Argentina suits those less well who are not ready for Spanish, bureaucracy and economic swings. An overview of all programmes is on the page Argentina; here is a short relocation plan.

The first weeks after moving
- Applying for residence with the migration service. After filing you get a temporary document confirming lawful stay until the decision.
- A tax number - without it you cannot open an account or connect utilities.
- A bank account and transfer details - more in our article on Argentine bank details.
- A foreigner's identity card after residence is approved.
- Renting a home for a year or longer.
The full list of documents for life in the country is in our article on documents for living in Argentina. Argentine bureaucracy loves queues and appointments, so a day when everything gets done in one visit is best treated as a holiday.
How much moving to Argentina costs
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| State residence fees per adult | ~$80 |
| Digital nomad visa | from $22 state fee |
| One-bedroom flat in Palermo or the centre | $650-850 a month |
| Flat in outer but convenient districts | from $450 a month |
| Family flat in Belgrano or Recoleta | $1,000-1,400 a month |
This excludes translations, apostilles, health insurance and the rental deposit. Rent is often quoted in dollars; restaurants and services are cheap for dollar holders, while electronics and imported goods are expensive. We will calculate your family's budget in the chat.
Fees of about $80; lost months cost more
The law does not stop you from moving to Argentina on your own. But mistakes cost more than the fees: a residence basis that does not fit your income, Russian certificates that expire before filing, long absences that later put the two years for citizenship in doubt, and appointments that take weeks to get. We choose a basis for your family, prepare apostilled and translated documents, support residence, the tax number and the account, and after 2 years handle the citizenship case in court. We guarantee professional work and a transparent process, and in most cases a result on the first application.
The cost of support depends on the basis and family size; our manager in the chat will calculate it.
Argentine citizenship after 2 years
You can apply for citizenship after 2 years in the country, and a federal court decides. Decree 366/2025, which moved citizenship to the migration service, was declared null by the National Electoral Chamber on 30 June 2026, and the government's appeal awaits the Supreme Court. So it is safer to live two years before applying without long absences and keep evidence of life in the country: a lease, bills, tax payments. An Argentine passport opens 169 destinations visa-free.
Citizenship by investment was announced on 2 October 2026: $350,000 non-refundable or $800,000 in government bonds, but the programme has not launched. More on the page Argentine citizenship and in our article on Argentina and Russia dual citizenship.
Taxes after moving
A foreigner living in Argentina not for work becomes a tax resident from the 13th month of stay. A resident declares worldwide income. Argentine rules may treat remote work physically performed in the country as Argentine-source income, so tax status is planned before the move.
Relocation pitfalls
- Spanish is needed from day one: without it renting and dealing with authorities are hard.
- Inflation: fees and tariffs follow it, so amounts are checked before paying.
- Long absences before applying for citizenship put the two years in doubt.
- Russian certificates with apostilles and translations must be recent, or the filing is postponed.
How we help
The law does not stop you from moving on your own. But mistakes cost more than the fees: the wrong residence basis, expired certificates, absences that later block citizenship. We choose a route for your family, prepare documents from Russia, support residence, the tax number and the account, and after 2 years handle the citizenship case.
