An account number in Palestine: 29 characters with the bank code

29 characters is the length of an international account number in Palestine. It starts with the country code and two check digits, followed by a 4-letter bank code and 21 characters for the account itself. The Palestine Monetary Authority requires banks to issue this number to every customer free of charge, so the recipient gets it at their branch or in the bank's app. The 4-letter bank code repeats the start of the bank's international code, so the number shows at once which bank holds the account.

The number is copied into the payment order in full and without spaces: one mistake in the check digits and the bank will return the transfer. Find out the account currency in advance, since the bank will convert a dollar transfer to a shekel account at its own rate.

So that the money reaches the right account the first time, we will suggest the best way to send it to Palestine. More about the city is on the Ramallah page.

We will help you send money to Palestine

Mistakes cost more than fees: a dollar transfer to a shekel account with an unnecessary conversion, a typo in the check digits of the account number that sends the money back, paying for a house without the contract in the payment purpose. We will help you avoid them: we will choose the route and timing, prepare the source-of-funds documents for the bank and carry out the transfer through to crediting.

Details and terms are with a manager in the chat: the cost depends on the sum and the purpose of the transfer.

12 banks work in Palestine under the supervision of the monetary authority: 5 Palestinian, 6 Jordanian and 1 Egyptian. According to the US Department of State for 2025, they have 384 branches and offices and assets of $24.5 billion. Banks keep accounts in dollars, dinars and shekels, so the recipient chooses the currency in which to receive the transfer. Besides banks, the monetary authority licenses e-payment companies, whose wallets are topped up by wallet number.

Instant payments in Palestine: around the clock since July 2024

Since July 2024 the Palestine Monetary Authority has run an instant payment system. It linked banks and e-wallets: money goes to an account by its number or to a wallet by the wallet number, around the clock and without days off, and the recipient does not need to be added to a list in advance.

A relative in Ramallah who receives a transfer from abroad can send part of the sum on to family in Nablus, Hebron or Bethlehem in seconds, even at night and on holidays.
