A transfer inside Bahrain in 30 seconds: up to 3,000 dinars a day
A transfer between banks inside Bahrain by account number takes 30 seconds. Since July 2025, by order of the central bank, the limit has risen from 1,000 to 3,000 dinars ($8,000) a day per account, and the transfer itself goes through immediately and with finality.
So a large sum from abroad is sent by bank transfer to your own account, and inside the country payments are made in parts: rent, a deposit, services. Bahrain has no personal income tax, and money arriving in your own account is not taxed.
Banks credit an employee's salary in dinars, and a dollar account is kept for savings and payments abroad. The account is opened with a resident identity card, issued together with the residence permit. Life in the capital is covered on the Manama page.
A flat in Bahrain and a golden residence permit from 130,000 dinars
130,000 dinars ($350,000): since 26 November 2025 this is the price of property that gives a 10-year golden residence permit; the threshold used to be 200,000 dinars. The property must belong entirely to the buyer and be in a freehold zone for foreigners: on the Amwaj Islands, in Seef, Juffair, Bahrain Bay or Durrat Al Bahrain. In these zones foreigners have bought homes as owners since 2001.
The residence permit covers the spouse, children and parents, and the fee for 10 years is 300 dinars ($800). Registering the deal costs 2% of the price, or 1.7% if paid within 60 days: on a flat at 130,000 dinars this is 2,210 dinars ($5,900). Other paths lead to the same residence permit: 5 years of living in the country with a salary from 2,000 dinars ($5,400) a month, or a pension from 4,000 dinars ($11,000).
The price of the flat is sent from abroad before registration, and the bank checks it against the contract. The contract and the transfer confirmation are kept: they are needed both at registration and later when the flat is sold. From rent to a golden residence permit: documents for each amount
- Up to $10,000. The recipient's bank looks at the name, the account number and the purpose: rent, study, family.
- $10,000-100,000. A statement of the sender's account and a contract are attached: employment, a lease, a flat booking.
- From $100,000. The bank asks for the sale contract and documents on the source of the money. Here a manager will help prepare the package in advance, before the first payment.
