How to send money from Turkey to Kazakhstan from your own Turkish account

The sender needs their own account at a Turkish bank: a foreigner opens one with a tax number or the foreigner number from a residence permit. Decree No. 32 on the protection of the value of the Turkish currency allows both lira and foreign currency to be sent abroad through banks.

  1. The recipient sends from the Kazakh bank the 20-character account number, the bank code, the account currency and the name in Latin letters, as held at the bank.
  2. You choose the currency: dollars or euros from your own currency account, or lira exchanged before sending.
  3. In the mandatory field of the application you state the purpose: family support, transfer to yourself, proceeds from a flat sale.
  4. The Turkish bank confirms the transaction in the app, and the Kazakh bank credits the money in 1-4 business days.

A transfer to Kazakhstan from 30,000 lira: what changed in Turkey on 7 October

Turkish Presidential Decision No. 11845 doubled the check thresholds: from 7 October 2026 the client's identity is verified on an electronic transfer from 30,000 lira ($610) and on a one-off or linked transactions from 370,000 lira ($7,600). The previous thresholds, 15,000 and 185,000 lira, had applied since 1 February 2023.

What each level requires, in 2026:

AmountTurkish bankKazakh bank

Turkey's financial intelligence unit may hold a large transaction for up to 7 business days, so the source of funds document is attached straight away. Our manager will tell you which document both the Turkish and the Kazakh bank will accept.

Lira or dollars: which is better to send to Kazakhstan

Currency already in your account in Turkey leaves for Kazakhstan with no tax. For buying dollars or euros with lira the bank withholds 0.2% under Turkish Presidential Decision No. 3031 of 30 September 2020, and selling currency is not taxed.

In Kazakhstan dollars and euros are credited to a currency account with no mandatory sale, and tenge are bought at your own bank when you need them. So lira are exchanged once, in Turkey, and from there the money travels in foreign currency.

Worked example: 3 million lira from selling a car and savings is $61,000. On exchange into dollars the Turkish bank withholds 0.2%, that is 6,000 lira ($130), and in Kazakhstan the amount becomes 27.7 million tenge at the rate of 7 October 2026.

Certificates from Turkey for a Kazakh bank: with a translation

For an amount above $10,000, which is 4.6 million tenge, a Kazakh bank asks where the money came from and why it is in the country. Turkish papers are attached with a translation into Kazakh or another language the bank accepts:

  • a Turkish bank statement for 6-12 months - for savings and salary;
  • a sale agreement and a land registry extract - for money from a flat;
  • proof of kinship - when a relative pays.

The purpose in the Turkish application and the purpose in Kazakhstan must match the documents: then both banks process the money without clarifications. The procedure for money from a home is in the article moving home sale proceeds abroad.

An account with an identification number in Kazakhstan for a transfer from Turkey

A citizen of Kazakhstan returning home needs only their own account at a Kazakh bank. A foreigner needs a 12-digit individual identification number: it is issued free of charge in 1-3 business days at a public service centre with a passport and a notarised translation, and before arrival - through e-residency.

The account is opened in tenge and foreign currency at once: a transfer from Turkey lands in the currency account, and tenge go on expenses. There is no tax in Kazakhstan on a transfer of your own money. The deposit guarantee fund protects a currency deposit up to 5 million tenge ($12,000) at each bank, and a tenge savings deposit up to 20 million tenge ($45,000).

How long a transfer from Turkey to Kazakhstan takes and what the price includes

1-4 business days, and up to 7 business days when a large amount is reviewed. The price includes the Turkish bank's fee, 0.2% when buying currency with lira, intermediary banks' charges and exchange into tenge in Kazakhstan if needed.

Who pays the intermediary charges is chosen in the application: the sender, the recipient or each side its own bank. For money from a home sale we will prepare the documents for the Turkish bank and carry out the transfer through licensed partners until the money is credited.
