The Brunei and Singapore dollar: one rate for two countries

Brunei and Singapore signed the Currency Interchangeability Agreement in 1967, and it is still in force: the two central banks exchange each other's money at par and with no fee, and banks accept Singapore dollars on deposit as Brunei dollars. That is why money from Singapore arrives in Brunei with no exchange, and the rate to the US dollar mirrors Singapore's.

Want to know in advance how many Brunei dollars will reach the account? A manager will work out the transfer with the rate and fees of the sending bank and the bank in Brunei.

No income tax: what is left of your money in Brunei

In Brunei only companies pay income tax, at 18.5%; salary, deposit interest and money sent from abroad are not taxed for an individual. The country has no sales tax either, so the whole transfer goes on living costs, rent or study.

Deposits at Brunei banks are protected by the state deposit protection corporation: it repays up to 50,000 Brunei dollars, or $40,000, per depositor at each bank, including interest. The scheme has run since 1 January 2011 and covers savings, current, fixed and Islamic deposits.

We will help you send money to Brunei

Mistakes cost more than fees: Singapore dollars exchanged into US dollars and back instead of being credited one to one, the whole sum at one bank above the 50,000 Brunei dollar insurance, a transfer sent through a chain of banks with extra fees, a Brunei bank with no statements on the money's path. We will help you avoid them: we choose a legal transfer route from your country, prepare source-of-funds documents for the Brunei bank and carry out the transfer through licensed partners until the money is credited.

Details and cost are with a manager in the chat: the calculation depends on the amount, the sending country and the purpose of the transfer.
