In detail

A Russian citizen gets Argentine citizenship on general terms: two years of living in the country on a residence permit and a federal judge's decision. There is no need to give up the Russian passport, the court charges no fee, and state fees for residence and the passport are about $210 per adult. All grounds, documents and the disputed questions of 2026 are in our full guide to Argentine citizenship.

How a Russian citizen gets Argentine citizenship

  1. Entry. Russian citizens need no visa and can stay up to 90 days.
  2. Residence permit. The ground is chosen for your income and family - more below.
  3. Two years in the country. Courts check actual residence, so long absences get in the way.
  4. An application to a federal judge with agency certificates, a criminal record certificate and a newspaper notice.
  5. The court decision, the oath and the passport.

On 30 June 2026 the National Electoral Chamber declared null the 2025 decree that had handed citizenship to the migration service. So the passport is again obtained through a federal court under the citizenship law. The government is appealing this decision.

Marriage to an Argentine citizen and the birth of a child in the country allow applying for citizenship without the two-year period, but the court still checks that the family really lives in Argentina. All grounds for residence are on the Argentine residence page.

How much Argentine citizenship costs

The court case itself is free. State fees for a temporary residence permit, renewal or permanent status and the passport come to about $210 per adult. Add agency certificates, a newspaper notice, apostilles and sworn translations. The main cost is two years of life in the country. We will calculate the total for your family in the chat, and a detailed breakdown is in our article on the cost of Argentine citizenship.

The court is free; mistakes are expensive

The law does not stop you from applying for Argentine citizenship on your own. But mistakes cost more than the fees: a residence ground that does not fit your income, breaks in residence that stop the court counting two years, criminal record certificates without an apostille, an incomplete court file. We choose the ground, arrange residence, track the residence period and handle the citizenship case in court together with locally licensed partners. We guarantee professional work and a transparent process, and in most cases a result on the first application.

The cost of our support depends on the ground and the family; a manager will calculate it in the chat.

How long it takes

By the rules a judge must decide within 90 days of the agencies' replies, but certificates take months. In practice the court takes from a year in small towns and longer in the busy Buenos Aires courts. Including two years in the country, the whole path usually takes three years or more.

Dual citizenship and what the passport gives

  • The Russian passport is kept: Argentina does not require renunciation. In Russia the Interior Ministry must be notified within 60 days of receiving the Argentine passport.
  • 169 destinations without a visa arranged in advance, including the Schengen area, the UK and Japan.
  • Citizenship passes to children, and for the family it opens a path to residence.

What about citizenship by investment?

On 2 October 2026 the government announced a programme: a non-refundable contribution of $350,000 to the treasury or $800,000 in a government bond. Applications are promised to open later; there are no implementing rules or portal yet. We are following the launch - details in our article on Argentine citizenship by investment.
