What changed by October 2026
US: the queue for the national interest green card
The issue above reported that visas in this category had run out before the end of the fiscal year. In 2026 the queue is still long: under the visa bulletin, for most countries including Russia the final action priority date is 1 January 2025 and the date for filing is 15 March 2026. With premium processing at $2,965 the petition itself is decided in 45 business days, but only the filing date secures a place in the queue, so it pays to file as early as possible. More on the page about the national interest green card.
Latvia: investor residence closed
Investor grounds in Latvia have been unavailable to Russian and Belarusian citizens since 24 September 2022. Since 15 September 2026 a new immigration law has been in force: residence through property and bank deposits is closed to everyone, leaving only the company capital option, with permits issued for up to 2 years. More on the page about Latvian residence by investment.
Finland: the border and property
The land border with Russia has been closed since 15 December 2023, and on 4 June 2026 the closure was extended until further notice. Since 15 July 2025 Russian and Belarusian citizens have been banned from buying property in Finland.
